September 2024, Johannesburg — Audi South Africa is set to host an exclusive auction in November, offering a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to bid on a singular masterpiece—the Audi RS 6 Avant GT. With only 660 units produced worldwide, this pinnacle of Audi engineering will see just one unit, number 74, making its way to South Africa. The auction will take place at a gala event in Cape Town, where this special model will be sold to the highest bidder, with a portion of the proceeds supporting a charity, soon to be announced.
As the final internal combustion RS 6 Avant, the GT represents the culmination of over two decades of automotive innovation and excellence. This auction is not just about purchasing a car, but about owning a piece of Audi’s illustrious history.
A Grand Finale for the RS 6 Series
The Audi RS 6 Avant GT is more than a high-performance vehicle; it’s the crowning achievement of the RS 6 series. “The Audi RS 6 Avant GT marks the end of an illustrious era for the famed RS 6 series,” said Sascha Sauer, Head of Audi South Africa. “The GT is more than just a car; it represents the apex of our engineering excellence and a legacy of which we are immensely proud.”
Taking inspiration from the legendary Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO race car, the RS 6 Avant GT is a blend of heritage and cutting-edge technology. This model’s exclusivity extends beyond its limited production run. Unit number 74, destined for the South African market, will be painted in Arkona White and features the iconic Audi Sport colours: black, grey, and red. The 22-inch high-gloss white alloy wheels further enhance its distinctive aesthetic.

Engineering Excellence and Design Mastery
The RS 6 Avant GT is meticulously crafted at Audi’s Böllinger Höfe facility, a production site renowned for building the R8 and e-tron GT models. Unlike the standard RS 6 Avant, the GT is assembled by hand, ensuring that each of the 660 units receives unrivalled attention to detail. Each vehicle spends a full day at three dedicated assembly stations, where skilled technicians install GT-specific components, including the lightweight adjustable coilover suspension, bonnet, fenders, and more.
Performance enthusiasts will be drawn to the GT’s twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which delivers an astounding 463 kW and 850 Nm of torque. With this power, the RS 6 Avant GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, reaching 200 km/h in 11.5 seconds, and has an electronically limited top speed of 305 km/h.
Inside, the vehicle boasts RS bucket seats upholstered in Dinamica microfiber and leather, a honeycomb pattern, and a host of luxury features, including a Bang & Olufsen 3D Advanced Sound System and a head-up display.
A Collector’s Dream
For South African enthusiasts, the Audi RS 6 Avant GT represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire a vehicle steeped in Audi’s motorsport heritage. Audi’s decision to allocate just one unit to South Africa reflects the model’s global rarity, making this auction a must-attend event for serious collectors.
Audi South Africa encourages potential bidders to follow the registration process on audi.co.za/oneofakind. The live auction will be held in Cape Town on 7 November 2024, where a select audience of invited guests and media will witness the sale of this historic vehicle.
