Wolfsburg – Germany’s largest motorsport event, the Nürburgring 24 Hours, has kicked off with a sensational world premiere: the debut of the new Golf GTI Clubsport. This enhanced, high-performance version of the iconic Golf GTI boasts a sharper design, state-of-the-art infotainment system, and specialized sports running gear, making it the most powerful GTI to date.
The unveiling took place on the Ring Boulevard at the legendary Nürburgring race track, with an enthusiastic crowd of motorsport fans in attendance. The new Golf GTI Clubsport impressed with its redesigned front end, which now features a more aggressive and distinctive look. The vehicle’s standard LED Plus headlights have been revamped, and for the first time, it showcases an illuminated VW logo at the front. A large roof spoiler at the rear maximizes downforce, complemented by redesigned LED tail light clusters.
The performance-centric design continues with new 19-inch Queenstown alloy wheels, inspired by the classic Detroit wheel of the fifth-generation Golf GTI. Additionally, the Clubsport can be equipped with optional 19-inch Warmenau forged wheels, each weighing only eight kilograms, reducing unsprung masses to optimize performance. Inside, a newly developed multifunction leather sports steering wheel and an advanced infotainment system enhance the driving experience. This includes the new IDA voice assistant, featuring ChatGPT integration for seamless communication.

Under the hood, the Golf GTI Clubsport houses the powerful EA888 LK3 evo4 turbocharged engine, delivering an impressive 221 kW (300 PS) and 400 Nm of torque, controlled via an electronically regulated front differential lock. The optional DCC adaptive chassis control further enhances driving dynamics. One standout feature is the exclusive Special driving profile, tailored for the Nürburgring’s challenging Nordschleife track. This profile adjusts the DCC adaptive chassis control and the Vehicle Dynamics Manager for optimal performance on the undulating track surface. The Clubsport accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h, extendable to 267 km/h with the optional Race package.
The debut of the Golf GTI Clubsport set the stage for a thrilling race weekend, marking the 50th anniversary of the Golf. The Max Kruse Racing team, featuring drivers Benny Leuchter, Johan Kristoffersson, Nico Otto, and Heiko Hammel, is competing in the 24-hour race with a 256 kW (348 PS) Golf GTI Clubsport 24h. Fans also have the opportunity to admire three classic first-generation Golf GTIs in the 24h Classic event. These historic models, including a 1981 Golf GTI 16S Oettinger, a 78-series Golf GTI Kamei, and an 80-series Golf GTI with a “50 years of Golf” logo, are fielded by the KWL Motorsport team.
