Milton Keynes, UK – 9 May 2025 – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles continues to set the standard in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment, clinching two coveted titles at the Great British Fleet Awards 2025. The brand’s all-electric ID. Buzz Cargo was crowned ‘EV Van of the Year’ for a remarkable third consecutive time, while the all-new Transporter drove away with the prestigious ‘Medium Van of the Year’ accolade.
Hosted in Milton Keynes, the annual awards ceremony celebrates outstanding achievement in fleet management, products, and services. Judged by a panel of seasoned editors from Fleet News, the awards recognise excellence across the commercial vehicle sector.
Iconic Design Meets Electric Versatility
Volkswagen’s forward-thinking ID. Buzz Cargo has proven once again that style and substance can go hand in hand. Honoured with the EV Van of the Year title for the third year running, the van’s enduring appeal lies in its iconic design, expanded model line-up, and increased practicality.
Judges were particularly impressed with Volkswagen’s commitment to broadening the ID. Buzz Cargo’s appeal. New variants, including a more accessible 59kWh entry-level model and 4MOTION all-wheel drive versions, have joined the original 79kWh model, delivering flexibility for fleet operators of every size.

John Kendall, Editor at Van Fleet World, praised the van’s continued evolution:
“With Chinese manufacturers entering the UK LCV market, competition in the electric van segment is intensifying. Yet, the ID. Buzz Cargo continues to lead the way. A 276-mile range, clean and simple cabin layout, and Volkswagen’s decision to introduce a more affordable variant all contributed to it retaining our EV Van of the Year title.”
The Transporter: A New Benchmark for Medium Vans
In a hotly contested category, the seventh-generation Transporter claimed the Medium Van of the Year title, underlining Volkswagen’s strength across both electric and traditional powertrains. Described by the judges as the “ultimate workhorse,” the new Transporter impressed with its versatile configurations and exceptional load capabilities, including up to 6.8m³ of cargo space, a 1.2-tonne payload, and 2.8-tonne towing capacity.
With body styles including Panel Van, Kombi, Shuttle, and double-cab, and a range of powertrain options and wheelbases, the Transporter offers unrivalled customisation for business users.
Kendall remarked:
“The new Volkswagen Transporter offers more load space, greater payload, and enhanced towing capabilities compared to its predecessor. It joins the Transit Custom as a top-tier medium van offering, with extensive specifications and a diverse line-up to meet various operational demands.”
Recognition of Continued Excellence
Commenting on the double win, Craig Cavanagh, National Fleet Manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, expressed pride in the brand’s achievements:
“We’re thrilled to be recognised with not one, but two titles at the prestigious Great British Fleet Awards. We’re especially proud to retain the EV Van title with the ID. Buzz Cargo, a model that continues to capture imaginations while delivering practical performance. This also marks our first award for the all-new Transporter, which has already generated an overwhelmingly positive response since its launch earlier this year.”
With these awards, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles reinforces its position as a leader in both the traditional and electric van markets, setting a high bar for functionality, innovation, and design.
