TruckStore, a division of Daimler Truck Southern Africa (DTSA), has officially expanded its footprint in Gauteng with the opening of a new West Rand facility, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to the Southern African used-truck market.
The new operation complements TruckStore’s existing Centurion head office facility, with both locations remaining fully operational to improve accessibility, flexibility, and customer support for businesses across the region. Positioned within Gauteng’s growing used-truck corridor, the West Rand facility places TruckStore closer to key transport routes, mining areas, and industrial hubs where demand for reliable commercial vehicles continues to grow.
Originally launched globally in 2001, TruckStore has become Daimler Truck’s dedicated used-vehicle division, serving customers with a focus on quality, reliability, and long-term value. South Africa became the first market outside Europe to establish a TruckStore operation in 2012, marking the beginning of a steadily expanding presence within the country’s commercial vehicle sector.
The opening of the West Rand facility signals more than geographic expansion. It reflects a broader investment in the long-term sustainability of Southern Africa’s transport and logistics industries, particularly at a time when businesses are increasingly seeking cost-effective fleet solutions.
Maretha Gerber, President and Group CEO of Daimler Truck Southern Africa, says the investment highlights the company’s confidence in both the regional market and the customers it serves.
“The opening of our West Rand facility is a clear demonstration of our commitment to Southern Africa. We are invested, we are present, and we are here to stay,” says Gerber.
“At Daimler Truck Southern Africa, our purpose is to keep Africa moving by creating real value for our customers, and TruckStore plays a critical role in supporting customers through their re-fleeting cycles. For customers in the used-truck space, TruckStore ensures that vehicles continue to deliver value well beyond their first lifecycle.”
Gerber adds that the facility strengthens the company’s ability to serve customers in the areas where they traditionally shop for used trucks, while also reinforcing DTSA’s confidence in the resilience and future potential of the regional trucking market.
The expansion comes during a period of stabilisation within the used-truck industry following significant fluctuations between 2023 and 2025. As supply and demand begin to rebalance, transport operators are increasingly turning to used trucks as dependable and financially practical alternatives for fleet expansion and replacement.
According to Wolf Edmayr, General Manager of TruckStore, the timing of the investment is closely aligned with shifting market conditions and customer behaviour.
“The West Rand has established itself as the hub of the used-truck market in Gauteng. This is where our customers look for used trucks when they are in the market. It was essential for us to be present here,” says Edmayr.
“With this new facility, alongside our Centurion operation, we are better positioned than ever to provide certainty, accessibility, and trusted solutions in a dynamic market. This investment ensures that TruckStore remains relevant, competitive, and ready for future growth.”
TruckStore continues to support businesses across Southern Africa by supplying high-quality used trucks to logistics operators, entrepreneurs, and industries that rely on efficient transport to keep operations running. In a sector where uptime can mean the difference between profit and pressure, dependable commercial vehicles remain the steel heartbeat of regional commerce.
For DTSA, the new West Rand facility is not simply another dealership location planted beside a busy highway. It is a strategic investment aimed at strengthening mobility, supporting economic activity, and helping industries move goods across borders, cities, mines, and distribution networks with greater confidence.
Gerber concludes: “Ultimately, our business is about more than trucks - it is about enabling the people and industries that keep Africa moving.”
