In Los Angeles, Singer has lifted the curtain further on its latest evolution of the legendary Porsche 911, offering a deeper look into the engineering philosophy behind the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe and Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer. These latest services from Singer Vehicle Design continue the brand’s long-standing mission of transforming classic Porsche 911s into bespoke, modernised expressions of analogue driving purity, created in close collaboration with their owners.
At the heart of this new chapter lies a renewed interpretation of the air-cooled era spirit, now sharpened through twenty-first century engineering. Rob Dickinson, Singer’s Founder and Creative Director, describes the ambition as the pursuit of the ultimate naturally aspirated G-series 911, inspired by the wide-bodied performance icons of the 1980s but reimagined with contemporary precision. The result is a flat-six engine concept built not only for peak horsepower, but for responsiveness, emotional engagement and torque-rich usability across the entire rev range.
To achieve this balance, Singer partnered with Cosworth, bringing one of motorsport’s most respected engineering houses into the development process. The collaboration has focused on refining combustion efficiency, valve control systems and airflow dynamics, drawing on Cosworth’s expertise in hypercar-level engine manufacturing. Singer’s Chief Test Driver, Marino Franchitti, has also been closely involved, recently visiting Cosworth’s UK facilities to evaluate prototype components as the engine moved through its development phases.
This new engine represents a series of firsts for Singer’s restoration programmes. It is the first naturally aspirated unit in their portfolio to feature variable valve timing, a breakthrough that enhances low-speed drivability while extending high-rev performance and smoothing torque delivery across the range. It also introduces a distinctive hybrid cooling architecture, combining water-cooled cylinder heads with air-cooled cylinders, supported by an electrically powered fan system that draws on lessons learned from earlier DLS Turbo development work.
For the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe and Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer, including Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer and Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer, the result is a 4.0-litre flat-six producing 420 horsepower. The engine is engineered to rev beyond 8,000 rpm, encouraging drivers to explore its upper reaches, particularly when paired with an optimised six-speed manual gearbox that channels power exclusively to the rear wheels. A raised gear shifter with an exposed mechanism is available, underscoring the mechanical theatre that defines Singer’s philosophy.
Further refinement comes through ultra-low-friction coatings derived from motorsport applications, improving durability at extreme operating conditions. The cylinder heads are fully machined for intake and exhaust precision, ensuring consistent combustion and cylinder-to-cylinder balance. A newly developed titanium exhaust system completes the package, designed to enhance both performance breathing and the unmistakable character of the flat-six soundtrack.
The restoration process itself remains as meticulous as ever. Each donor Porsche 911 (Type 964) is completely stripped to its steel monocoque, which is then assessed, cleaned and reinforced to improve rigidity while preserving its original character. The engine, originally the M64 flat-six, is fully reimagined as part of Singer’s performance programme, ensuring that the mechanical heart of the car is as advanced as its exterior and interior craftsmanship.
Every build is highly individual, shaped by the owner’s preferences and specification choices, making no two restorations identical. Pricing reflects this bespoke approach, while availability is increasingly limited, with all Coupe allocations already reserved and only a small number of Cabriolet commissions remaining.
Singer’s latest evolution will also be showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2026, where the brand will headline as the Central Feature marque, placing its reimagined 911s at the centre of one of the world’s most celebrated automotive stages.
