Johannesburg, South Africa, 22 January 2025 – In a groundbreaking move for South African tennis, Renault South Africa has joined forces with Tennis South Africa (TSA) as the federation’s official vehicle partner. The three-year partnership is set to inject new energy into the sport, with Renault taking on sponsorship of the national Davis Cup team, now rebranded as the Renault Davis Cup Team.
This collaboration marks a pivotal step in the development of tennis in the country, with Renault also securing naming rights for TSA’s Masters Tennis category, which caters to players aged 30 and over. Formerly known as Seniors Tennis, it will now be called Renault Masters Tennis.
Driving Tennis Forward
“This marks a new era and an exciting time for tennis in South Africa,” said TSA General Manager Anthony Moruthane. “We are thrilled to partner with a vibrant and forward-thinking brand like Renault. This partnership is not just about transportation—it’s about elevating the entire tennis experience in our country.”
Moruthane highlighted the practical benefits of the partnership, noting that the national team and TSA officials will now enjoy seamless and stylish transportation, ensuring optimal performance and ease in hosting world-class tournaments across South Africa. “Together with Renault, we are driving tennis forward, one kilometre at a time!” he said.
Renault South Africa’s Marketing GM, Lee-Anne Stanton, expressed the company’s excitement about the collaboration. “Renault’s connection to the tennis world is already well-established through our involvement with the Roland Garros Grand Slam in Paris. Now, we’re bringing that same energy to South Africa,” she said.
Stanton also emphasised the alignment of Renault’s brand with tennis, stating, “This partnership allows us to promote Renault to an upmarket target audience while supporting a sport that brings communities together. We’re excited about the journey ahead and look forward to making a tangible impact on tennis in South Africa with the help of our extensive Dealer Network.”

Renault SA Davis Cup Team Gears Up for Nigeria Tie
As part of the partnership announcement, newly appointed team captain Pietie Norval revealed the squad for South Africa’s Davis Cup World Group II playoff tie against Nigeria. The clash will take place at the Groenkloof Tennis Stadium in Pretoria on 1–2 February.
The team features familiar faces from the September tie against Lebanon, including Philip Henning, Alec Beckley, and Leo Matthysen. Joining them is Kris van Wyk, making a return to the squad after his last appearance in February 2023.
Henning, Beckley, and Van Wyk are ranked within the top 700 globally in both singles and doubles, while 18-year-old Matthysen is set to gain invaluable experience as part of the team.
Norval, serving as captain for the first time, expressed confidence in the squad. “The players are very well prepared, with Philip Henning finishing last season strongly by winning two ITF World Tour events in Stellenbosch. Kris van Wyk reached the finals, and Alec Beckley made the semifinals,” he said.
The team’s preparation at high altitude and their recent form will be crucial in the upcoming tie. “While we’re currently uncertain about Nigeria’s team strength, we will prepare as if facing a strong opponent. Good preparation can make the difference,” Norval said.
High Stakes at Groenkloof
The winner of the playoff will advance to a World Group II tie in September, while the losing team will face a regional Group III event later in the year. With so much on the line, the Renault Davis Cup Team is poised to showcase their skill and determination on the court.
As Renault South Africa accelerates tennis in the country, this partnership promises to be a game-changer, not just for the sport but for its fans, players, and the communities it brings together.
