Bahraini Graduates Embark on Prestigious McLaren Automotive Internships
McLaren Automotive has proudly welcomed four recent graduates from the American University of Bahrain (AUBH) to its iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) in Woking, England. This marks the commencement of a groundbreaking one-year internship program designed to offer these graduates invaluable professional experience across various business functions within the esteemed supercar manufacturer.
The inaugural program builds on existing university partnership initiatives, honoring the legacy of McLaren’s founder, Bruce McLaren. The selected graduates, Zain Alawadhi, Zainab Taher, Fares Alqutami, and Imran Nasir, were greeted at the MTC by CEO Michael Leiters and Chief People and Transformation Officer Jim Marsh. These interns were chosen based on their exemplary academic achievements and demonstrated potential for future success.
Throughout the year, the interns will rotate through multiple departments within McLaren Automotive, working closely with engineers, designers, and commercial professionals. This hands-on experience will provide them with a comprehensive understanding of the operations of a leading global automotive company.
McLaren Automotive has a rich history of fostering educational partnerships and has previously welcomed students from around the world to learn from its 3,000-strong workforce. In 2016, in tribute to Bruce McLaren’s journey from New Zealand to England, the company established an engineering scholarship program with the University of Auckland, allowing New Zealand students to experience the intricate process of crafting a McLaren road car.

Jim Marsh, Chief People and Transformation Officer at McLaren Automotive, expressed his enthusiasm: “We welcome Zain, Zainab, Fares, and Imran to McLaren Automotive as part of our partnership with the American University of Bahrain. Just as our founder, Bruce McLaren, traveled to England to pursue professional racing over 60 years ago, we encourage young talents from across the globe to follow in his adventurous footsteps. I look forward to seeing the contributions our new interns will make and the fresh ideas they will bring.”
Dr. Bradley J. Cook, President of the American University of Bahrain, added: “This internship program aligns perfectly with our shared goal of developing the capabilities of Bahraini national talents and enhancing their competitiveness. We are grateful for this partnership, which provides promising opportunities for our graduates to thrive, explore international opportunities, and engage in a global work environment. We wish them success and prosperity in the program.”
This internship not only exemplifies McLaren Automotive’s commitment to nurturing young talent but also strengthens the bonds between academic institutions and industry leaders, fostering a new generation of automotive innovators.
