The future of Lexus luxury has arrived in the form of the all-new Lexus TZ, a fully electric three-row SUV that combines premium comfort, advanced technology and strong battery-electric performance in one striking package.
Unveiled globally for the first time, the TZ represents a major step forward for the Japanese luxury brand as it expands its battery-electric portfolio under its new “DISCOVER LIMITLESS” philosophy. The concept behind the vehicle is simple yet ambitious: create a luxury SUV that encourages drivers and families to move beyond routine travel and embrace a more rewarding driving experience.
For South African buyers, the announcement carries added significance. Lexus says the TZ is currently under study for possible introduction to the local market, potentially giving local customers access to one of the brand’s most advanced electric vehicles yet.
At the heart of the TZ is Lexus’s newly developed “Driving Lounge” concept, which transforms the SUV cabin into a premium living space on wheels. Rather than focusing solely on performance figures or technology features, Lexus has designed the TZ around comfort, calmness and connection between passengers.
Built on a dedicated battery-electric platform, the SUV offers a spacious and exceptionally open cabin layout. The long wheelbase and flat-floor design maximise passenger room across all three rows, while a panoramic roof further enhances the sense of openness inside the vehicle. Lexus says the TZ delivers some of the quietest cabin conditions in its line-up, thanks to advanced sound insulation and intelligent acoustic management systems.
The interior itself reflects Lexus’s evolving design direction. Sustainable materials play a major role throughout the cabin, including “Forged Bamboo” trim made from Shikoku bamboo and recycled aluminium finishes. Lexus has also implemented lower-impact production methods as part of its broader circular development strategy, highlighting the growing importance of sustainability within the luxury automotive segment.
Ambient lighting, premium audio technology and minimalist styling work together to create an atmosphere that feels more executive lounge than conventional SUV. Features such as “Rear Comfort” mode aim to improve passenger relaxation during long journeys, while Interactive Manual Drive technology adds a more engaging layer to the driving experience for enthusiasts behind the wheel.
Although comfort and refinement are central to the TZ’s identity, performance remains a core focus. The all-electric SUV uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 300 kW, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds. Lexus estimates a driving range of up to 640 km depending on market specifications, while fast-charging capability allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 35 minutes under suitable conditions.
Visually, the TZ introduces a dramatic new interpretation of Lexus styling. The SUV features a sculpted spindle body design with sharp geometric lighting signatures and carefully integrated aerodynamic elements. Beyond aesthetics, these design choices also contribute to improved efficiency and driving range. Lexus claims the TZ delivers class-leading aerodynamic performance among Lexus SUVs.
The proportions are equally impressive. Measuring 5,100 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm, the TZ offers generous interior space alongside practical versatility. Cargo capacity ranges from 290 litres to 2,017 litres depending on seating configuration, while towing capacity is rated at up to 1,500 kg in European specification.
According to Lexus International Chief Engineer Takeshi Miyaura, the goal was to create a vehicle that delivers value far beyond transportation.
“The TZ was developed as a refined mobile space that brings smiles to drivers and families alike. Beyond driving, we wanted to create a vehicle where people genuinely enjoy spending time,” he said.
The all-new TZ arrives at a time when luxury manufacturers are rapidly redefining what premium mobility means in the electric era. Rather than simply replacing combustion engines with batteries, Lexus appears focused on reshaping the entire ownership and travel experience around comfort, sustainability and emotional appeal. Tiny rolling zen garden. Very fast zen garden. ⚡
Should the TZ make its way to South Africa, it could become an important addition to the country’s growing premium electric vehicle segment. For now, Lexus says local introduction timing and final specifications will only be confirmed if the vehicle receives market approval.
