Jaguar Elevates Women Empowerment and Creativity through #GiveHerACrown Platform
Pretoria, South Africa – 11 June 2024: Jaguar South Africa proudly showcased the remarkable artistry of six South African women from the 2023 #GiveHerACrown campaign at a prestigious event held at the South African Consulate in New York. The #GiveHerACrown initiative leverages storytelling and the arts to champion gender equality, and this event served as a testament to the extraordinary talents of these women, whose works are deeply rooted in South African heritage.
The event, attended by over 80 distinguished guests including diplomats, business leaders, and influential figures from the arts, fashion, and media sectors, provided a powerful platform for these artists to share their unique stories and creative expressions. Jaguar’s involvement underscored its commitment to uplifting female artists and celebrating their contributions to the arts.
Each artist created a bespoke piece around the theme “Celebrating the Exquisite Details,” with every artwork designed to inspire and encourage women to embrace their individuality and uniqueness. The impact of this exhibition was profound, with two of the showcased pieces now permanently housed at the South African Consulate in New York. The remaining artworks were successfully sold upon their return to South Africa.

Irene Kakooza, Communications Manager for JLR South Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa, expressed her pride in the event, stating, “Jaguar understands that culture and art have the power to tell untold stories, subvert stereotypes, shed light on our collective values, and explore different facets of our complex identities. Through their creative expressions, these artists have provided profound insights into the human experience from diverse perspectives. It was a great honor for Jaguar to be part of this showcase.”
The #GiveHerACrown platform also demonstrated its commitment to furthering the education of women in the creative fields. Proceeds from the event have been directed to the Crown Bursary Fund, which will support the education of 14 women at private institutions. Ten students will attend the Inscape Design School, while four will enroll in the BHC School of Design x Visi’s new modular online courses in interior design. To date, the bursary program has benefited 20 students.
Additionally, the Crown Collection has played a pivotal role in raising funds to support an innovative education program in schools, in collaboration with the non-profit organization Lalela, which uses the arts to promote gender equality.
The #GiveHerACrown campaign is a vital component of JLR’s broader commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, supporting women globally to thrive in creative industries.
