PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA — Daimler Truck Southern Africa (DTSA) has issued a statement in response to recent media speculation regarding the potential merger between Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino Motors, two prominent commercial vehicle brands linked to Daimler Truck and Toyota respectively.
The clarification follows increased public and media interest in the potential integration of the two truck manufacturers under a new holding company—a move first hinted at in a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 30 May 2023 by Daimler Truck, Mitsubishi Fuso, Hino Motors, and Toyota Motor Corporation.
DTSA emphasised that while exploratory discussions are ongoing, no final decisions have been reached concerning the business integration. Key aspects such as the structure of a potential holding company, including equity and voting rights ratios, IPO timing, and accounting treatment, remain undetermined.

“We are aware of the recent media reports and would like to clarify that the information presented in some cases does not accurately reflect the current status of discussions,” said DTSA in its official statement. “As of now, the potential merger remains under exploration. Any confirmed developments will be communicated transparently and promptly.”
The potential unification of Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino Motors signals a strategic intent to accelerate innovation and strengthen technological development in the commercial vehicle industry. Should the integration proceed, it could reshape the landscape of the global truck manufacturing sector, especially within the realms of electrification, connectivity, and autonomous driving technologies.
In the meantime, DTSA urges stakeholders and media representatives to rely on official communications from Daimler Truck and Toyota Motor Corporation for accurate updates and information.
The company remains committed to transparency and will provide timely updates should any material facts emerge that warrant public disclosure.
