A new era in commercial vehicle servicing has begun. The launch of the Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS) at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show marks a pivotal moment for the UK’s logistics and transport sectors, promising greater transparency, consistency, and accountability across HGV workshops nationwide.

The scheme—jointly developed by a coalition of leading industry bodies including Logistics UK, the Road Haulage Association (RHA), Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT), the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE), the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA), and the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA)—is backed by the Office of the Traffic Commissioner, the DVSA, and the Department for Transport (DfT). It establishes a tiered framework for evaluating the quality, competency and operational standards of HGV maintenance providers across the UK.

A Unified Standard for a Fragmented Sector

At the heart of the MPRS is a simple but transformative idea: to provide a standardised national rating—from Entry through Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum—that enables fleet operators to make informed decisions when choosing maintenance partners. In doing so, it aims to drive measurable improvements across the sector in terms of safety, compliance, MOT pass rates, and workshop investment.

“This is a sector that’s long been in need of consistent, independent benchmarking,” says Amy Carter, Head of Product at Daimler Truck UK, a key contributor to the MPRS pilot scheme. “As an OEM, Daimler Truck UK has welcomed being involved in the development of the MPRS as we believe it is important for the commercial vehicle industry to be setting new standards.”

Daimler Truck UK: Leading by Example

Daimler Truck UK played a central role in the scheme’s 18-month pilot programme, using its nationwide dealer network to trial and refine the MPRS scoring protocols. The manufacturer’s commitment to the programme underscores its ongoing focus on customer service, workshop excellence and regulatory compliance.

“Although we already assess the standards of our own dealer network regularly, the MPRS now provides a useful independent benchmark to prove that when a customer sends their fleet into our workshops, they’re being looked after by the highest standards,” Carter adds.

In a clear signal of intent, Daimler Truck UK has confirmed that every dealer in its network will carry an MPRS rating by the end of 2025, reinforcing its support for transparency and continued improvement across the aftersales landscape.

Raising the Bar for the Industry

For participating workshops, the MPRS offers more than a plaque on the wall. It’s a badge of commitment to quality, training, investment, and safety—factors that can make or break operator relationships in an increasingly compliance-focused industry.

For fleet operators, the scheme promises peace of mind and greater confidence in maintenance partnerships, particularly as safety standards and regulatory scrutiny intensify.

But perhaps most importantly, the MPRS sets a new benchmark for what good looks like. In doing so, it invites the entire industry to raise its game, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, measurable excellence, and customer-first thinking—values that the UK’s logistics sector will depend on as it faces the challenges of the future.
