Munich, Germany – Changan Automobile used the global stage of IAA Mobility 2025 to make its most decisive statement yet on the future of electric and intelligent mobility. Under the banner “Changan, Sharing the Future,” the Chinese automaker unveiled a suite of new electric models and smart mobility technologies that not only underscore its international ambitions, but also signal what South African motorists can soon expect.
A Showcase of Intelligent Innovation
At the heart of the Munich showcase was the European debut of the Deepal S05, a striking EV SUV defined by its elegant silhouette, frameless doors and contemporary design language. Designed from the ground up for intelligent, sustainable mobility, the S05 embodies Changan’s blend of modern aesthetics and forward-thinking engineering.
Beyond the S05, Changan’s display offered a full immersion into its “smart mobility” roadmap, illustrating a future where electrification and intelligent driving systems are seamlessly integrated. Central to this vision is the DUBHE Plan 2.0—a strategic commitment to accelerating low-carbon solutions and pushing the boundaries of vehicle intelligence. Visitors experienced next-generation connectivity and in-vehicle intelligence firsthand, a clear demonstration of how the brand’s R&D investments translate into everyday usability.
South Africa: A Market Poised for Change
For South Africa, the spectacle in Munich was far more than a show of global ambition. It was a promise. Changan’s unveiling of advanced New Energy Vehicle (NEV) technologies—ranging from electrified powertrains to intelligent user experiences—signals a roadmap that will soon shape local roads.
“What was unveiled in Munich shows what’s possible—not in some distant future, but for the vehicles we’re bringing to South Africa today,” said Marinus Venter, Country Manager at Jameel Motors South Africa. “Luxury, intelligence, and sustainability are not add-ons; they’re standard in Changan’s vision of mobility.”
This commitment aligns seamlessly with Changan South Africa’s brand promise of “Driven To Evolve,” reinforcing that the technological leaps demonstrated in Europe will be translated into tangible benefits for South African drivers.

REEV Technology: A Practical Path to Electrification
Among the highlights tailored for emerging NEV markets like South Africa was Changan’s Hunter REEV double cab, a range-extended electric pickup designed specifically for markets where charging infrastructure remains in development. This model—already confirmed for local introduction—demonstrates how Changan intends to bridge the gap between traditional and fully electric mobility.
Looking ahead, the Deepal S05 REEV, scheduled for South African launch in 2026, will bring the same philosophy to a premium SUV format. By integrating a range-extender generator, these vehicles deliver the smooth, quiet performance of an EV while neutralising the anxieties associated with limited charging infrastructure.
“For us, infrastructure is not a concern,” Venter emphasised. “With our REEV technology, we provide all the superb driving pleasure of an electric vehicle, but without the dependency on public charging. The range extender generator eliminates range anxiety, making it an ideal solution for South African motorists.”
Driving the Future—Today
Changan’s presence at IAA Mobility 2025 is more than a glimpse into the next chapter of global automotive innovation—it’s a preview of South Africa’s near future. By combining luxury with intelligent design and practical electrification, the brand is positioning itself not just to compete, but to lead.
As the Deepal S05 makes its European debut and the Hunter REEV prepares for South African roads, Changan sends a clear message: the future of mobility isn’t on the horizon—it’s arriving, and it’s ready for South Africa.
