Nürburgring, Germany – October 2025

Already crowned the fastest car on the planet, the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme has cemented its place in automotive history yet again — this time on one of the world’s most unforgiving racetracks. Just a month after achieving a world-record top speed of 496.22 km/h at ATP Papenburg, BYD’s luxury performance sub-brand has announced a new milestone: a record-breaking lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

On 22 August 2025, the U9 Xtreme completed the 20.832 km “Green Hell” in an astonishing 6 minutes 59.157 seconds, becoming the first electric super sports car to dip below the seven-minute barrier. The feat slices more than five seconds off the previous class record — a resounding statement from YANGWANG’s engineers and a defining moment for electric performance.

A Testament to Technology and Tenacity

The record lap is the result of over a year of relentless testing at the Nordschleife, where YANGWANG’s development team refined every facet of the U9 Xtreme’s performance. The car’s technological prowess comes from the world’s first mass-produced all-domain 1200V ultra-high-voltage platform, which serves as the beating heart of its phenomenal output — over 3,000 PS generated by four high-performance electric motors, each capable of spinning up to 30,000 rpm.

The result? A staggering power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS per tonne, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for an electric hypercar.

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li hailed the achievement as a defining chapter in the brand’s journey:

“We are dedicated to pushing the limits of what can be achieved through technology, and the Nürburgring is such a legendary challenge for cars and drivers that it is only natural for our engineers to pursue their dreams there. I congratulate the entire team on this phenomenal achievement. The U9 Xtreme has proven that it is not only the world’s fastest car in a straight line, but also a vehicle with the performance and dynamic qualities necessary to break lap records on a circuit with a wide variety of corners.”

Precision Meets Power

Behind the wheel for the record-setting lap was Moritz Kranz, a veteran German racer with nearly 10,000 Nordschleife laps to his name. His experience was crucial in extracting every fraction of performance from the U9 Xtreme’s advanced systems.

“The Nürburgring Nordschleife is the most demanding track, and our lap time is a testament to the development skills of BYD and YANGWANG,” said Kranz. “Without their intense work to balance a high-powered EV platform with the difficult demands of the chassis set-up, this great lap time would not have been possible.”

To master the track’s punishing gradients and corners, the U9 Xtreme’s engineering team introduced a revolutionary cooling system, a titanium-alloy carbon-ceramic braking setup, and GitiSport e·GTR² PRO semi-slick tyres, developed in partnership with Giti.

The car also debuts an evolution of YANGWANG’s e⁴ Platform and DiSus-X intelligent body-control system, bringing “body-attitude control” technology to the racetrack for the first time. This innovation allows the car to actively adjust its stance and dynamics in real time — balancing the extreme demands of top-speed stability with precision cornering agility.

The Definition of ‘Extreme’

With its dual record titles — world’s fastest car and fastest electric super sports car at the Nürburgring — the U9 Xtreme represents the pinnacle of YANGWANG’s engineering ambition. Limited to just 30 units worldwide, this collector’s machine embodies the brand’s philosophy of exploration, innovation, and the joy of exceeding limits.

Even its name tells the story: “Xtreme” derives from “extreme,” symbolising the limitless pursuit of performance, while the letter “X” stands for the unknown frontiers that YANGWANG dares to explore.

A New Benchmark for Electric Performance

The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme’s record-breaking run redefines what electric vehicles are capable of — proving that EVs are no longer confined to efficiency and sustainability alone, but can stand at the forefront of speed, precision, and pure driving emotion.

In conquering both the straight-line world record and the Nürburgring’s relentless corners, YANGWANG hasn’t just built a car; it has crafted a symbol of technological evolution and fearless ambition.

The future of performance is electric — and it just got a new lap record.
