The circuit is about to be closed for renovations, meaning any standing records before the closing will remain in place forever!
After the 18th of April, when the last event is to be held at the current Kyalami, lap records will stand for the rest of time. Images captured will be prized possessions. The experience will be one to remember and cherish. There are a number of ways you can get involved:
The circuit will be closed from May to September this year for alterations and changes to the track layout.
As such, the Bridgestone Kyalami Track Challenge to be held on 18 April will be the last open event where drivers can enjoy the current layout.
Lap records will stand for the rest of time. Images captured will be prized possessions. The experience will be one to remember and cherish. There are a number of ways you can get involved:
Bridgestone Hot Laps- a 3 lap experience around the track as a passenger. The cost is just R100; there is no need to pre-register for this.
Bridgestone Track School- a basic introduction to driving on track that includes some theory and practical training in a BMW Driving Experience M135i. The cost for this is R500 or only an additional R150 if you enter the Track Challenge.
Bridgestone Track Challenge- The most popular part of the event which is where the club’s racing series was born in 2010. Any make of car is welcome; every level of driving skill is catered for from a complete novice to a seasoned professional. Club membership, an MSA licence, a helmet and gloves are required. Helmets can be hired for R200 for the day. You will be placed in a session equivalent to your driving skill and your cars performance and if you finish in the top 3 of the 10 classes you will be awarded a prize. The cost for this is R950.
Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series- This event is also the third round for the popular Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series which as always promised exciting racing for spectators to enjoy.
Entry to the circuit is free of charge to the public. Gates open at 8 and the action kicks off shortly thereafter. Food and drink is available for sale throughout the day. Hosting sponsors Alberante BMW will have BMW Lifestyle items for sale as well as a display of the latest BMW models. During the lunch break, enjoy the BMW Classic Parade featuring famous BMW road and race cars from the past.

The BMW Car Club of Gauteng and the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit share a history that goes back more than two decades.
In the early nineties, the club started organising club track days for its members which have since grown into massive events at the Midrand based circuit.
Last year when news of the sale of the circuit to its new owners was announced, the club chose Kyalami as the venue of choice for its Guinness World Record parade attempt in 2013, where 446 BMWs took to the circuit to support the initiative.
The Club was formed in 1981 to afford like minded enthusiasts the opportunity to interact with each other through a comprehensive calendar of events, a club magazine and website portal. The Club also organizes adrenaline and social based events such as breakfast runs, classic car gatherings, Concourse d’Elegance competitions, noggins, weekend trips, gymkhana’s and top speed events.
