13 March 2023. Women On the Move Against Cancer (WOMAC) held its annual fundraiser last Thursday (9 March), which raised more than £10,000 thanks to the generosity of our guests. Funds raised are supporting two deserving charities – Maggie’s and Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation – both of which provide care and support for those going through a cancer diagnosis.
Following a postponement in 2022, the sell-out party was held at the House of Lords, which provided an incredible backdrop to an evening bringing together friends and colleagues, all with the mission of raising funds for two incredible cancer causes.
The money raised during the party and throughout this year and last allows WOMAC to exceed its £7,500 pledge and donate an incredible £10,000 to each charity, that will fund ongoing support for cancer sufferers and their families. Of course, the evening would not be possible without the help of WOMAC’s Committee and Patrons, plus companies which generously support the party, including Coding Ketchup, ECF, Genesis, Imprimatur, Influence, Kelsey Media, Kia, Loop, NKRUSH, PFPR, Rhubarb Creative, Sims Images, SMMT, Volta Trucks and VW Group, as well as all the attendees who gave their time and money to help the fight against cancer.
Dame Laura Lee, Chief Executive at Maggie’s said: “I, along with everyone at Maggie’s, am very grateful for WOMAC’s generous donation. This money will help us to continue to provide our free psychological and practical support to people across the UK living with cancer, as well as their family and friends, at a time when they need it the most.”
Claire Kelly of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said: “Both Paula and I are thrilled to attend this amazing event with WOMAC at such an iconic venue and have the opportunity to thank so many patrons and supporters.
“We’re living in unprecedented times post pandemic, and our nurse care helpline and patient grants requests continue to rise as we support an increasing number of patients and families diagnosed and living with lung cancer.
“The monies raised from this event will continue to support these people, and for that we are most grateful.”
It isn’t a WOMAC party without the famous raffle and tombola which saw people snap up prizes such as car loans from Genesis, Lexus, Toyota and Volvo, an iPad donated by AutoTrader, signed rugby and cricket memorabilia and even a MINI children’s skateboard – hardly anyone went home empty handed.
Georgia Fox, Chair of WOMAC, said: “Once again, I’m astounded by the generosity shown at this year’s party and am delighted we have exceeded our target donation for Maggie’s and Roy Castle Lung Foundation.
“None of this would be possible without the backing of so many people and companies who have supported WOMAC for so many years. I cannot thank each and every one of them enough. To see what these donations means to the charities makes it all worthwhile, and to know we are helping people going through one of the worst times of their life is truly priceless.”
The funds raised now bring the total amount raised by WOMAC since its inception in 1979 to more than £1 million, with more than 60 cancer causes benefiting from the efforts of a group of volunteers all working in the automotive industry.
