The automotive auction calendar is no stranger to spectacle, but few events capture the breadth and soul of classic motoring quite like the Creative Rides Winter Auction. This Saturday, 12 July, the company’s Main Road Bryanston showroom will be transformed into a collector’s paradise as 40 exceptional vehicles cross the block from 11am — a curated showcase of precision engineering, design legacy and motoring passion from across the globe.
The headline acts? Four air-cooled Porsches, led by one of the most sought-after models in Porsche history — the ultra-collectable 1989 G-Series Speedster. A one-year-only production run of just 2,104 units makes this car globally rare; even more extraordinary is the fact that the example on offer is one of only 139 right-hand drives built, and the only one ever to go under the hammer in South Africa.
Completing the Stuttgart quartet are three desirable 911s: a 1972 LHD Targa, a 1978 SC Coupe (also LHD), and a right-hand-drive 1988 3.2 Carrera Targa — each one a dream find for connoisseurs of the iconic 911 lineage.
The German contingent remains strong with a lineup of performance legends from BMW. The 2025 BMW M4 CS, virtually brand new with only 574 km on the clock and one of just 25 in the country, headlines this selection. Joining it are a 2021 BMW M2 CS, a 2017 M4 GTS, and the cult-classic 2000 Z3 M Coupe — an enigmatic and powerful ‘clown shoe’ that has gained a cult following worldwide.
Not to be outshone, Mercedes-Benz brings an astonishing seven-vehicle fleet to auction. Most notable is the 1958 220 S Cabriolet, beautifully turned out in cream with red leather — a rolling time capsule of late-‘50s elegance. Equally revered is the 1965 W111-series 220 SE Coupe and the 1966 W110 230 “Fintail” sedan. The collection continues with a rare LHD 1969 250 CE W114 Coupe, the stylishly rugged 280 SL W107, and the practical yet collectable 1984 W124 300TE wagon.
Volkswagen’s icons complete the German stronghold with four significant models: the 2007 Golf 5 R32 (the swansong of the VR6 era), the final-edition 2010 CitiGolf Mk1 LTD, and two extraordinary Microbuses. A 1962 Type 2 Split-Window Kombi is joined by a remarkable 1958 stretched “Kombi Limo” powered by a Golf GTI-sourced 2.0-litre engine and measuring a party-worthy six metres in length.
British motoring royalty also graces the auction floor with two Jaguar E-Types — a 1962 3.8 Series 1 coupe and a 1966 4.2 Series 2 2+2 — offering a visceral reminder of the era when the E-Type ruled the roads and hearts alike. They’re joined by a 2006 Aston Martin DB9 Vantage, a refined evolution of the DB line, as well as the timeless 1960 MGA Roadster and a 1984 Bentley Brooklands, complete with a commanding 6.75-litre V8.
Italian flair, while modest in number, is represented by a charismatic 2000 Alfa Romeo GTV V6 — a car known for its musical Busso engine and razor-sharp handling.
Of course, no Creative Rides event would be complete without a healthy dose of American muscle. The 1969 Dodge Charger R/T 440, fitted with a thunderous 8.5-litre Hemi V8 and upgraded suspension, is the definition of power and presence. It’s flanked by a factory-restored 1969 Ford Mustang GT 390, a 1994 Dodge Viper R/T 10 boasting a 400 hp V10, and a 1935 Ford V8 Roadster — a piece of muscle car genesis. A heavily customised 1957 Chevrolet 3100 pickup with Corvette LS V8 power rounds out this tribute to raw Americana.
South Africa’s own muscle-car heritage is proudly displayed in the form of the 1971 Ford Capri Perana V8, a brutal Ford homologation special. It’s joined by the 1973 Chevrolet Can Am — GM’s fiery answer to the Perana — and a pair of 1972 V8 icons: the Chevrolet SS and Ford Fairmont GT, both homegrown heroes of the golden era.
Two-wheeled classics also make their mark. Two mint-condition Honda CB1100s — a 1981 RB and 1982 RC — represent the peak of early 1980s superbike supremacy, while a tastefully crafted 1981 Honda CB Café Racer pays tribute to that legacy with its bespoke beige and white livery.
Adding a whimsical note to the auction is a trio of creative recreations, each one a celebration of automotive fantasy: a 1932 MJ J Boat Tail Special, a Lotus 7 homage, and a stunning Ferrari P4 recreation with a supercharged V8 heart.
