In response to growing concerns about electric vehicle (EV) reliability, Warrantywise has unveiled a new EV warranty plan designed to meet the evolving demands of the used EV market. As EV adoption accelerates, so too do consumer worries over costly repairs and maintenance. With the launch of the new EV Plus warranty this month, Warrantywise aims to ease these concerns by providing comprehensive coverage for critical EV components, including the often-expensive drive battery.

According to Consumer Reports, EVs are 79 per cent more likely to encounter reliability issues than their petrol or diesel counterparts. Recognising this, Warrantywise has tailored its offering to cover key electric systems such as the AC power inverter, DC to DC converter, power regeneration braking system, and auxiliary battery, with the EV Plus plan extending to the drive battery. This comprehensive coverage aims to enhance consumer confidence in purchasing used EVs, especially as these vehicles become more accessible and affordable.

Currently, the average cost of a used EV sits just below £20,000, providing excellent value for consumers looking to make the switch from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. In fact, recent data from HPI highlights that used EVs are now around 8.5 per cent cheaper than their petrol or diesel counterparts after three years, with the price gap continuing to widen as vehicles age. This affordability shift positions used EVs as an attractive option for savvy buyers, but concerns about potential repair costs remain a significant barrier to wider adoption.

Antony Diggins, Managing Director of Warrantywise, underscored the importance of the new EV warranty in alleviating these concerns. “Owning an electric vehicle can bring some reliability and cost-of-repair challenges, but our new warranty is designed to provide peace of mind. Recently, we approved a repair claim for a Renault ZOE that exceeded £5,000 due to an electrical fault, demonstrating how essential a robust extended warranty can be in protecting EV owners from unexpected financial strain.”

Warrantywise Launches Enhanced Ev Warranty To Boost Consumer Confidence

For dealers, the new warranty plan offers a powerful tool to reassure customers about the dependability of used EVs. By providing coverage for major electrical components and the drive battery, dealers can demonstrate their commitment to customer satisfaction and long-term reliability, ultimately boosting sales and fostering loyalty.

As the automotive industry continues its transition to electrification, Warrantywise’s expanded coverage comes at a critical time. Despite increased investment from OEMs and government support for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), EV market share has seen modest growth. A report by Cox Automotive revealed that battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for just 15.7 per cent of the year-to-date market in April 2024, a modest three per cent rise over the previous year. This indicates that more than just legislative efforts are needed to encourage widespread EV adoption—addressing reliability concerns will be key to instilling confidence among buyers.

EV prices have also become increasingly competitive. In some cases, like the Jaguar I-Pace and Tesla Model X, prices have fallen by as much as £20,000, according to HPI data. Such dramatic decreases in cost make the pre-owned EV market more attractive than ever, particularly when paired with Warrantywise’s enhanced warranty plans that mitigate the perceived risks of used EV ownership.

With 24 years of industry experience, Warrantywise is committed to transparency, reliability, and customer confidence. In addition to offering tailored warranty plans, Warrantywise provides insights into the used car market through its annual Reliability Index, designed to give consumers a clear picture of vehicle dependability. Edd China, renowned TV presenter and master mechanic, serves as the company’s final arbiter, ensuring that every claim meets the highest standards.

Warrantywise’s EV warranty options, including the standard EV plan and the more comprehensive EV Plus, are designed to keep pace with the evolving technology of electric vehicles. These plans cover essential mechanical and electrical parts, with flexible add-ons like air conditioning, multimedia, and MOT failure protection available to further customise the coverage.

As the future of mobility shifts towards electrification, Warrantywise is at the forefront, offering EV owners the peace of mind they need to confidently embrace a more sustainable way of driving. For more information on Warrantywise’s EV warranty plans, visit www.warrantywise.co.uk.
