Gqeberha, South Africa – Volvo Car South Africa (VCSA) has officially launched the all-new XC60 in the local market, offering customers a combination of electrified powertrains, refined Scandinavian design, and cutting-edge technology. With a series of updates that enhance performance, comfort, and connectivity, Volvo’s best-selling SUV continues to set the benchmark in its segment.
Since its debut in 2017, the XC60 has become Volvo’s top-selling model, with over 1.5 million units sold globally and a record year in 2024. The refreshed XC60 builds on this success with updates that align it with Volvo’s growing lineup of electrified vehicles.
Electrified Powertrains
The XC60 is available with both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The B5 mild hybrid, offered in Core and Plus trims, pairs a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with a 48-volt battery and integrated starter generator, delivering 183 kW and 350 Nm of torque. The result is smooth, responsive acceleration from 0–100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, with a combined fuel consumption of just 7.6 L/100 km.
The T8 plug-in hybrid combines a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor in the ‘Twin Engine’ setup, producing 340 kW and 709 Nm. With up to 81 km of pure electric range and fuel consumption as low as 1.8 L/100 km, the T8 accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Both powertrains come standard with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Sophisticated Design
The refreshed XC60 presents a cleaner, more contemporary exterior, including a reworked air intake, Volvo’s updated iron mark badge, darker rear lights, and new wheel designs. The colour palette introduces Forest Lake and Aurora Silver, while Mulberry Red, previously exclusive to the EX90 and XC90, is now available on the XC60.
Inside, the XC60 combines Scandinavian minimalism with practical versatility. Premium materials and refreshed decorative inlays create a modern, exclusive cabin environment. Practical enhancements include redesigned cup holders, an improved wireless phone charger, and additional storage, complementing a spacious and flexible boot.
Customers can personalise finishes across trims, with bright accents on the B5 Core and T8 Plus, and sportier Glossy Black finishes on the B5 Plus and T8 Ultra. All models feature LED headlights and a range of wheel sizes, from 18 to 22 inches, with a panoramic sunroof standard across most models.
Enhanced Comfort and Well-Being
Volvo has focused on occupant comfort with a quieter cabin, advanced air purification, laminated windows, and optional air suspension. Seating options include ventilated Nappa leather for higher trims, while all models offer Nordico Vinyl or Navy Herringbone Textile alternatives. Interior décor varies by trim, from sporty Metal Mesh to Natural or White Wood, with an elegant Orrefors crystal gear selector available in select models.
Standard features include power-adjustable driver’s seats, heated seats, power-operated tailgate, climate control, heated steering wheel, and keyless entry, ensuring a comfortable and convenient experience for all occupants.
Next-Generation Infotainment
Central to the XC60’s update is the 11.2-inch Google-powered infotainment system with the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, delivering a faster, sharper, and more intuitive interface. Over-the-air updates keep the system current, while a 12.3-inch Driver Display ensures key information is always accessible. Connectivity includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB Type-C ports, and wireless charging.
Premium audio options complement the infotainment system, ranging from the High Performance sound system on lower trims to the Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity system on the T8 Ultra, delivering studio-quality sound throughout the cabin.
Safety at the Core
Safety remains a hallmark of Volvo design. The XC60 comes with comprehensive active and passive safety systems, including Pilot Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Support, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Park Assist, Hill Start/Descent Control, and a suite of airbags and whiplash protection systems.
“The new XC60 delivers clear, practical improvements in design, technology, and comfort,” said Grant Locke, Managing Director of VCSA. “These updates refine an already successful formula, ensuring drivers enjoy enhanced performance, smarter technology, and a safer, more comfortable driving experience.”
