Volvo Cars is set to redefine electric mobility with the all-new ES90, a premium electric vehicle that integrates cutting-edge technology to deliver unparalleled efficiency, performance, and sustainability. With the introduction of 800-volt architecture, advanced computing power, and a software-defined design, the ES90 stands as the most technologically advanced Volvo to date.
Next-Generation 800V Technology for Faster Charging and Extended Range
At the heart of the ES90 is Volvo’s new 800-volt electric architecture, a transformative upgrade that enhances efficiency, reduces charging times, and optimizes overall performance. This high-voltage system allows the ES90 to add up to 300 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes at 350 kW fast-charging stations, making it the fastest-charging Volvo ever.
With a driving range of up to 700 kilometers (WLTP), the ES90 provides the freedom to travel farther with fewer charging stops. The benefits of an 800V system extend beyond range and charging speed—it also enables a lighter and more efficient powertrain, improving energy conversion and driving dynamics.
“Our 800V technology marks another significant technological upgrade for our customers as we move towards full electrification,” said Anders Bell, Volvo’s Chief Engineering and Technology Officer. “It makes our electric cars even more efficient, helps you charge your electric Volvo faster, and go further on a single charge.”
Advanced Core Computing with NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin
Taking in-car intelligence to new heights, the ES90 debuts Volvo’s most powerful core computing system yet. Powered by a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, this advanced computing platform processes a staggering 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS), orchestrating the car’s AI-driven safety features, real-time data processing, and battery management with unprecedented speed and precision.
Compared to previous Volvo models, the ES90’s deep learning and neural network capacity have expanded fivefold, from 40 million to 200 million parameters. This allows for continuous over-the-air improvements, ensuring the car evolves over time with enhanced safety, efficiency, and performance.
A Software-Defined Car That Improves Over Time
Built on Volvo’s revolutionary Superset tech stack, the ES90 is engineered to improve long after it leaves the factory floor. This unified hardware and software architecture underpins all future Volvo EVs, streamlining updates and enhancements across the entire lineup.
With regular over-the-air (OTA) updates, ES90 owners will benefit from ongoing software improvements, including expanded connectivity features, battery optimization, and even enhanced driver-assistance capabilities. This marks a fundamental shift in automotive innovation—where software, rather than hardware, drives long-term value and continuous improvement.

Sustainability at the Core
The ES90 isn’t just about performance—it’s also a step forward in sustainable manufacturing. Volvo has integrated a high percentage of recycled and bio-based materials to reduce its environmental footprint:
- 29% of all aluminum and 18% of all steel in the ES90 is recycled.
- 16% of interior materials are made from recycled polymers and bio-based alternatives.
- FSC-certified wood panels ensure responsible sourcing.
Additionally, the ES90 introduces Volvo’s battery passport, a blockchain-based system that tracks the origins of critical raw materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel. This transparency ensures ethical sourcing and provides customers with insights into the battery’s lifecycle emissions.
Safe Space Technology: A New Benchmark for Safety
Volvo’s commitment to safety is legendary, and the ES90 raises the bar with Safe Space Technology. Equipped with an advanced sensor array—including one lidar, five radars, seven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors—the ES90 delivers unparalleled situational awareness. Its proactive safety measures, including AI-powered collision avoidance and real-time driver monitoring, set a new benchmark for road safety.
“We innovate in all areas of technology to become a leader in software-defined cars,” added Bell. “By combining the power of core computing and our Superset tech stack, we can now make safer cars more efficiently than ever before.”
Future-Ready: Continuous Upgrades for Existing Customers
In line with Volvo’s philosophy of continuous improvement, the advanced dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin system will also be introduced to existing EX90 owners via an OTA upgrade. This highlights Volvo’s commitment to providing lasting value for its customers, ensuring that their vehicles remain at the forefront of technological innovation.
