Volvo Car South Africa is accelerating into 2025 with impressive momentum, continuing its stronghold on the country’s premium electric vehicle (EV) segment. Riding high on the runaway success of the EX30 and bolstered by the recent arrival of the luxurious EX90, the Swedish automaker is redefining what South African drivers can expect from electric mobility.
From January to April 2025, Volvo delivered 114 electric vehicles across the country—a figure that underscores the brand’s growing appeal in a competitive and rapidly evolving market. Once again, it was the EX30 that stole the spotlight. With 48 units sold in just four months, the compact crossover is not only the top-selling electric Volvo but also South Africa’s best-selling premium EV overall, outperforming similarly-sized luxury rivals in the segment.
Volvo’s well-rounded electric range also placed other nameplates in the national top five. The XC40 and C40 Recharge models, both built on Volvo’s proven Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, claimed third place with a combined 36 units sold. Meanwhile, the flagship EX90—the brand’s all-new, range-topping luxury SUV—secured a strong fifth-place finish with 30 units, despite being a recent addition to the local portfolio.
The strong Q1 performance follows a standout 2024, when Volvo became South Africa’s best-selling EV brand, delivering 539 electric vehicles over the course of the year. This continued dominance illustrates the brand’s growing influence and the rising local demand for high-quality, future-ready electric mobility.

Accessible Luxury with Volvo’s Flexible EV Ownership Model
Volvo Car South Africa’s recent success is not only built on compelling products but also on an ownership experience that removes many of the traditional barriers to EV adoption. Through the company’s Guaranteed Future Value (GFV) programme, drivers can get behind the wheel of the EX30 from just R9,999 per month. The offer includes a guaranteed trade-in value after 48 months, giving customers peace of mind and financial flexibility.
Further sweetening the deal, every EV purchase includes a complimentary home wall box charger, a R7,500 contribution toward installation, a R12,000 public charging voucher, and 10 GB of in-car data per month for three years. These comprehensive benefits make the transition to electric driving not just more affordable but also significantly more convenient and connected.
New Models, Broader Appeal
Volvo’s EV product line is set to expand even further in the coming months with the arrival of the rugged EX30 Cross Country and the ultra-luxurious ES90 sedan. These additions will strengthen the brand’s already formidable lineup, ensuring there’s an electric Volvo to suit every type of premium customer—from adventure seekers to executive commuters.
“Strong demand for Volvo’s electric vehicles in South Africa, led by the EX30, reflects increasing interest in premium electric mobility within the country,” said Felipe Yagi, Head of Marketing and Communications at Volvo Car South Africa. “The introduction of the EX90 alongside our existing models shows South African drivers are exploring new possibilities with electric vehicles. This performance reinforces Volvo’s commitment to advancing sustainable transportation locally.”
As Volvo continues to invest in South Africa’s EV future, the brand’s upward trajectory in 2025 is a sign of things to come: a broader range, a smarter ownership experience, and a bold commitment to shaping the country’s electric mobility landscape.
