Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ new Transporter line-up has once again proven its dominance in the medium van sector, achieving a remarkable double win at the 2026 What Car? Van and Commercial Vehicle Awards. The seventh-generation Transporter was named ‘Best Medium Van’, while its electric counterpart, the e-Transporter, took home ‘Best Medium Electric Van’, underscoring the range’s versatility and appeal across both traditional and electric powertrains.
The latest Transporter impresses with its 1.28-tonne payload, 6.8m³ load volume, and a broad selection of trims, including the recently introduced Commerce Pro S, which offers even greater flexibility for businesses and sole traders. Judges highlighted the vehicle’s day-to-day practicality, car-like driving comfort, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ comprehensive aftercare package, the 5+ Promise. This package provides a combination of services, MOT cover, a five-year warranty, and roadside assistance, delivering cost certainty and peace of mind for operators.
Steve Huntingford, Editor at What Car?, praised the Transporter for being “an outstanding all-rounder within the medium van market,” noting that its comfort and usability are unmatched by rivals, without compromising its load-carrying capabilities. The e-Transporter, available in 136PS and 218PS variants, impressed judges with a payload of up to 1,000kg and a towing capacity of 2,300kg. Its quiet, composed ride and strong green credentials position it as a leading choice for businesses embracing electric mobility.
Eve Tyers, Head of Marketing at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said the awards reinforce the Transporter’s reputation as a versatile and reliable workhorse, capable of meeting a wide range of commercial needs. Both vehicles highlight Volkswagen’s commitment to blending practicality, comfort, and sustainability, ensuring owners can confidently tackle any job.
