GQEBERHA – Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) continues to champion the enhancement of South African youth employability through dedicated initiatives aimed at equipping candidates with essential skills and fostering valuable work experience. Since 2019, over 3,000 young individuals have benefited from Volkswagen’s robust participation in the Youth Employment Services (YES) programme, a national initiative aimed at tackling youth unemployment.

“VWGA’s commitment to sustainable development and societal transformation underscores our support for the YES programme,” stated Nonkqubela Maliza, VWGA’s Director for Corporate and Government Affairs. “By integrating youth into our operations and dealer network, we not only create employment opportunities but also contribute to economic growth.”

Volkswagen Invests In Youth Bridging Skills For Future Sales Leaders

In its latest commitment, VWGA welcomed 508 new YES candidates in 2024, with placements spanning the Kariega plant, Sales, Marketing, Aftersales divisions in Gauteng and Cape Town, and across the dealer network. This structured 12-month programme serves as a gateway for young individuals to gain foundational work experience and develop professional skills essential for career growth.

“As part of our initiative to foster sustainable employment, we are introducing the Volkswagen Sales Skills Training programme,” Maliza explained. “This programme identifies promising YES trainees for potential sales roles within our dealer network, aiming to cultivate their capabilities and prepare them for long-term career opportunities.”

Central to this initiative is the Precise Fit Sales Assessment, which assesses candidates’ alignment with the demands and expectations of sales positions within automotive dealerships. Through targeted training and mentorship, VWGA aims to empower YES participants to pursue roles as Sales Executives, thereby enhancing their earning potential and contributing to their professional development.

“By investing in the youth through structured training and employment opportunities, Volkswagen not only supports individual growth but also strengthens our business ecosystem,” Maliza concluded. “We remain committed to driving meaningful change and creating a more inclusive workforce.”

This proactive approach underscores VWGA’s steadfast commitment to nurturing talent, promoting economic inclusion, and fostering a sustainable future for South Africa’s youth.
