Volkswagen has confirmed that eight models in its award-winning all-electric ID.3 line-up now qualify for the UK Government’s newly introduced Electric Car Grant (ECG), giving buyers an immediate £1,500 saving at the point of purchase. With the discount applied, the ID.3 range now starts from £29,360 on the road.
The announcement follows the Government’s launch of the level-two ECG scheme last month, designed to accelerate adoption of battery-electric vehicles by making them more accessible to everyday motorists. Unlike many incentive programmes, the ECG is automatically applied at purchase with no paperwork or additional steps required, ensuring a seamless buying experience.
Eight ID.3 Variants Eligible
Volkswagen customers can now take advantage of the discount across a wide choice of ID.3 variants, spanning different battery capacities and specifications:
- ID.3 Pure Essential 52 kWh 170 PS
- ID.3 Pure Match 52 kWh 170 PS
- ID.3 Pro Essential 59 kWh 204 PS
- ID.3 Pro 59 kWh 204 PS
- ID.3 Pro Match 59 kWh 204 PS
- ID.3 Pro S Essential 79 kWh 204 PS
- ID.3 Pro S 79 kWh 204 PS
- ID.3 Pro S Match 79 kWh 204 PS
Eligibility for further models in the ID. family, including the ID.4 and ID.5, is expected to be confirmed by the Government in due course.

Commitment to Sustainable Mobility
To qualify for the ECG, vehicles must meet strict technical and sustainability benchmarks. Volkswagen has long embedded these principles into its production processes, from the adoption of hemp-based imitation leather for interiors to its active role in expanding renewable energy capacity across Europe.
This approach ensures that customers benefit not only from advanced zero-emission technology but also from the knowledge that their vehicle is part of a wider commitment to environmental responsibility.
Encouraging More Drivers to Make the Switch
Rod McLeod, Director of Volkswagen UK, welcomed the announcement:
“Everyone at Volkswagen has been working hard for several years to increase the pace of electrification and help a broader base of buyers to be able to access and embrace all-electric motoring. The new Electric Car Grant from the Government supports this, and alongside competitive pricing and finance options, we are encouraging more drivers to make the switch to sustainable mobility.”
With competitive finance offers, improved charging infrastructure, and now the added benefit of the ECG, Volkswagen believes the ID. range is perfectly positioned to play a key role in the UK’s transition to electric driving.
