Wolfsburg/Munich, September 8, 2025 – Volkswagen Group has marked a new chapter in its electrification journey with the unveiling of the Electric Urban Car Family, a collection of four small all-electric models from Volkswagen, CUPRA, and Škoda. Slated for launch in 2026, the line-up will bring premium electric mobility to a broader audience with prices starting at around EUR 25,000.
With this bold move, the Group is setting its sights on capturing around 20 percent of Europe’s rapidly expanding electric small car market—a segment forecast to quadruple over the next eight years. This translates to several hundred thousand units annually, solidifying Volkswagen Group’s position as the continent’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer.
One Platform, Four Distinct Characters
At the heart of the new line-up is the further developed MEB+ electric modular platform, a proven foundation that delivers scalability, efficiency, and economies of scale across brands. The platform debuts Volkswagen Group’s unified cell battery, enabling ranges of up to 450 kilometres while keeping costs competitive.
Despite sharing a common base, each model embodies its own distinct identity.
- Volkswagen ID. Polo – A compact hatchback, symbolising everyday practicality with Volkswagen’s new Pure Positive design language. The ID. Polo GTI will be the first fully electric model to carry the legendary GTI badge, blending spirited performance with everyday usability.
- Volkswagen ID. CROSS Concept – A small SUV offering the stance and versatility urban drivers crave, also aligned with the Pure Positive design ethos.
- CUPRA Raval – A bold hatchback characterised by CUPRA’s unmistakable sporty, unconventional spirit, appealing to younger and style-driven buyers.
- Škoda Epiq – A family-friendly city SUV that embodies Škoda’s new Modern Solid design philosophy, offering versatility and practicality without compromise.
Premium Technology, Made Accessible
The Electric Urban Car Family aims to democratise high-end technology by introducing premium features to the entry-level electric class. Standard equipment includes DC fast charging, while the advanced Travel Assist system now offers lane-change assistance and traffic light recognition. LED matrix lighting, app-based pre-conditioning, and even optional massage seats bring higher-segment comfort into this category.
Connectivity and software are equally future-ready. The cars integrate the award-winning charging planner from Volkswagen’s larger EVs, while an in-car app store provides access to over 100 applications spanning entertainment, productivity, and lifestyle. Smartphones can even serve as digital car keys.

A Strategic Milestone in E-Mobility
The Electric Urban Car Family represents more than just a new product line; it is a cornerstone of Volkswagen Group’s ambition to deliver “mobility for all.”
Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen Group, emphasised the significance of this moment:
“This day is a milestone in our successful e-mobility strategy. In August, the Volkswagen Group delivered its 3.5 millionth all-electric vehicle, more than 2.5 million of which are based on our MEB platform. Now we ignite the next stage. The Electric Urban Car Family stands for a new beginning, accessibility, and progress. And for a central promise of the Volkswagen Group: Mobility for all. From Europe for Europe. Volkswagen delivers.”
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen Brand and Brand Group Core, added:
“All vehicles in the Electric Urban Car Family are based on one platform and bring technologies from higher segments to the entry-level class. At the same time, they are completely different in design and character. This is the future of urban electric mobility – and it starts right here.”
The Road Ahead
Unveiled at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, the Electric Urban Car Family is more than a showcase—it’s a clear declaration of intent. By combining affordability, premium technology, and distinctive brand characters, Volkswagen Group is creating a gateway into electric mobility for millions of drivers.
With this strategic step, the Group continues its transformation from a traditional automaker to a global technology driver, shaping the future of sustainable, intelligent, and inclusive mobility.
The promise is simple yet profound: technology for the people.
