Volkswagen Group UK Partners with OVO Energy to Accelerate EV Adoption

Volkswagen Group UK’s EV customers to benefit from OVO Energy’s innovative solutions and clean energy offerings.

Milton Keynes, 1 July 2024 – Volkswagen Group UK has announced a strategic partnership with energy experts OVO to offer customers preferential rates and additional incentives, making the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible and cost-effective. Starting from 1 July 2024, customers purchasing vehicles from any of the Volkswagen Group brands—Audi, CUPRA, SEAT, Škoda, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles—can take advantage of OVO’s leading ‘Charge Anytime’ add-on and a host of other benefits. This collaboration introduces OVO’s advanced grid technology, powered by Kaluza, which provides a charging rate almost four times cheaper than the national average.

Earlier this year, Volkswagen Group renewed its home charging and wallbox partnership with Ohme. The addition of OVO to the ecosystem allows Volkswagen Group and its retailers to further support customers by recommending energy solutions, thereby enhancing the overall EV ownership experience.

Through the partnership, Volkswagen Group customers can enjoy home charging at a rate of just 7p/kWh** at any time of the day or night. The ‘Charge Anytime’ add-on, powered by Kaluza’s intelligent software, has already saved customers over £10 million since its launch in 2022. The technology automatically initiates charging when carbon emissions and prices are at their lowest, optimizing both cost and environmental impact.

Additionally, Volkswagen Group customers who sign up with OVO will receive 10,000 free miles*, followed by 1,000 free miles on each contract anniversary for the next three years. Petrol and diesel drivers planning to switch to EVs can also accumulate miles through OVO Beyond—the UK’s first ‘Energy Savings Account’—earning an extra 50 miles each month, up to 24 months, when they eventually purchase a Volkswagen Group electric vehicle.

Kate Jeffreys, Electric Vehicle Lead for Volkswagen Group UK, commented: “After a comprehensive selection process, we are thrilled to partner with OVO to offer our customers a seamless solution for clean, affordable, and simple energy. Alongside our partnership with Ohme for home charging, this agreement with OVO addresses more of the barriers faced by those looking to switch to electric vehicles. We aim to make the experience of buying, owning, and driving an EV straightforward and enjoyable. This new collaboration is another key element of our comprehensive offering to consumers.”

Mat Moakes, OVO’s Chief Commercial Officer, added: “OVO is dedicated to supporting customers in their transition to electric vehicles. Our collaboration with Volkswagen Group allows us to reward customers for their commitment to EVs. We are excited to extend our market-leading ‘Charge Anytime’ service to more customers, helping them on their EV journey while reducing costs and carbon emissions.”

In 2023, the Volkswagen Group sold over 771,000 electric vehicles globally, marking a significant increase of more than a third compared to 2022. In the UK, Volkswagen Group accounted for one in every five battery electric passenger cars sold.

For further details, please visit the respective vehicle brand websites or OVO’s website.

*OVO and VWG are offering up to 10,000 free ‘Charge Anytime’ miles through £212.12 credit for customers who purchase a new VWG electric vehicle and add ‘Charge Anytime’ to their plan. Additionally, 1,000 free miles are available for each subsequent year, up to a maximum of three years. This offer applies to new and existing OVO customers, subject to terms and eligibility criteria. For full terms and a list of eligible VWG brands, please see the Offer Terms. Note, the offer period may vary by VWG brand. Compatible EV or Charger and smart meter required for ‘Charge Anytime.’ Please refer to the Charge Anytime Terms. The 10,000 free miles are based on Volkswagen Group’s average EV efficiency of 3.3 miles per kWh, equating to 3030.3 free kWh. OVO’s ‘Charge Anytime’ rate is 7p per kWh when smart charging, amounting to £212.12 free credit. Actual mileage may vary depending on the EV model, driving style, and other external factors. **For instance, charging a Volkswagen ID.7 with a 77 kWh (net) battery from 0 to 100% charge could cost as little as £5.39.
