JOHANNESBURG – December 04, 2025 – Stellantis South Africa has issued an urgent Stop-Drive safety warning for selected vehicles across its Citroën, DS, Chrysler, Jeep, and Opel brands. This follows the ongoing global Takata airbag recall, which continues to affect multiple vehicle manufacturers worldwide.
Takata airbag inflators are known to deteriorate over time, particularly when exposed to hot and humid conditions. In such environments, the inflators may rupture during airbag deployment, propelling metal fragments at high speed—posing a serious risk of injury or even death.
To address this critical safety issue, Stellantis is recalling all affected vehicles and offering free airbag replacements to ensure the safety of customers. Vehicle owners can check whether their cars are impacted using the new online ‘VIN Check tool’, available at https://www.recall.stellantis.com/#/takata. By entering the vehicle identification number (VIN), owners can quickly determine if their vehicle is subject to the recall.
Stellantis strongly urges all owners or drivers of affected vehicles with Takata airbags that have not yet been replaced to stop driving immediately and contact Stellantis to schedule the necessary repair.
