The flagship Chery Tiggo 8 Pro MAX has achieved a significant accolade, securing a prestigious five-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) on Friday, 24 May.
ANCAP’s five-star rating is the highest possible endorsement, indicating the vehicle’s exceptional safety for occupants and other road users in the event of a collision. This comprehensive rating also highlights the vehicle’s ability to avoid or minimize crash severity through advanced technology. Notably, ANCAP is among the first programs to require an extensive list of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for evaluation.
Introduced in South Africa in 2022 as Chery’s flagship model and updated in March 2024, the desirable Chery Tiggo 8 Pro MAX made its Australian debut in May 2024, where it underwent rigorous testing soon after.
The Tiggo 8 Pro MAX’s rating is derived from extensive crash tests conducted on the Tiggo 7 Pro, which shares the same platform. ANCAP evaluated these tests alongside additional technical data specific to the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX. Following this initial assessment, ANCAP conducted thorough pedestrian safety tests on the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX. Consequently, this rating applies to all Tiggo 8 variants available in South Africa, including the Tiggo 8 Pro Executive with its turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine, the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX with a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, and the all-wheel drive model.

This five-star rating underscores Chery’s relentless dedication to safety, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and materials. Built on Chery’s renowned T1X platform, the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX boasts a lightweight, rigid, and modular design. Despite its light weight, it features exceptional body strength and stability, achieved through the use of ultra-high-strength steel, providing impressive torsional stiffness of up to 21,000 Nm/deg.
The third-generation high-strength steel integrated body cage, developed through over 100,000 experiments, constitutes more than 60 percent of the vehicle’s body weight. Additionally, bamboo-inspired spacer panels enhance structural integrity.
In terms of active safety, the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX includes virtually every ADAS feature associated with level two autonomous driving, such as automatic emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane keeping assist (LKA), traffic jam assist (TJA), integrated cruise assist (ICA), and lane departure warning (LDW).
The Tiggo 8 Pro MAX is also equipped with four pre-tensioned force-limiting seatbelts and ten airbags, including a driver knee airbag and second-row side airbags with 6-second pressure retention technology. A unique airbag between the front passengers further enhances safety, making this one of the safest and best-equipped vehicles in its class.
This standout model from Chery also boasts numerous user-friendly features that enhance everyday driving safety, such as a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that constantly measures the temperature and pressure of each tyre, and cornering lights that improve night-time driving safety.
The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro range had already secured a five-star rating from the Chinese New Car Assessment Programme, reinforcing its position as a leader in automotive safety.
