LONDON, Friday November 21st, 2025 – Nissan has confirmed that its all-new, third-generation LEAF—built exclusively in Sunderland—will qualify for the UK government’s reinstated £3,750 Electric Car Grant, bringing the entry price of the 75kWh model to £32,249 when orders open next month.

The announcement marks a significant milestone for both the British automotive industry and the wider EV market, reinforcing the LEAF’s long-standing position as one of the most influential electric cars in history. Retail offers are set to go live in December, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for February.

A New Chapter for a British EV Pioneer

The new LEAF arrives with a WLTP range of up to 386 miles, placing it among the most capable long-range EVs in its class. Production of the 75kWh model begins at Nissan’s world-class EV hub in Sunderland in December—affirming the brand’s ongoing investment in UK manufacturing and the region’s growing EV supply chain.

James Taylor, Nissan GB Managing Director, said the confirmation of pricing—including eligibility for the Electric Car Grant—will help make the transition to electric more accessible:

“We’re absolutely delighted to be able to confirm LEAF’s pricing at £32,249 including the electric car grant, which will deliver an accessible route to EV ownership for our customers.

“This is fantastic news for people looking to switch to fully electric motoring as they now have the reassurance that comes from a car with up to 386-miles of range, all the tech they could want and the real-world benefits that come from Nissan’s 15 years of EV expertise. Best of all, it’s proudly built right here in the UK!”

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander welcomed the news, emphasising its impact on both families and the British workforce:

“Nissan helped pioneer early EV ownership through the original Leaf, so it is great to see them join our drive to make going electric cheaper and more accessible for families.

“Alongside saving drivers thousands this news is also a big boost for manufacturing in the North East—supporting thousands of jobs in the region whilst backing the industry to grow and deliver our Plan for Change.”

Sharper Design, Smarter Tech, Stronger Range

Styled under Nissan’s next-generation EV design language, the new LEAF becomes the brand’s most aerodynamic production car to date—a key factor in its range efficiency. It incorporates flush door handles, a distinctive 3D tail light signature and an optional dimming panoramic roof that contributes to its premium feel.

Inside, the model debuts Google Built-in, giving drivers seamless access to Google Maps and Google Play without needing a smartphone. The system also supports downloadable apps and games, enhancing convenience and in-car entertainment.

Charging and Performance: Built for Real-World Driving

The 75kWh model offers compelling real-world capability, including:

  • Up to 386 miles WLTP range
  • 269 miles of range at 70mph (independent real-world testing equivalent)
  • Energy consumption as low as 4.5 miles/kWh
  • 150kW DC fast charging, adding up to 273 miles in around 30 minutes

Power comes from a refined 160kW (215hp) motor delivering 355Nm of torque, translating to 0–62mph in 7.6 seconds in Sport mode.

A Legacy Reinvented

Since its 2010 debut, the Nissan LEAF has sold nearly 700,000 units worldwide, securing its legacy as the world’s first mass-market electric car. The 2025 model embodies this heritage while pushing the concept forward—combining longer range, enhanced efficiency, cutting-edge technology and the assurance of UK manufacturing.

Its accomplishments are already earning recognition: earlier this year, the all-new LEAF was crowned The Sun’s Car of the Year at the 2025 Motor Awards.

As the UK accelerates toward an electric future, the British-built Nissan LEAF once again stands at the centre of the movement—this time with more range, more technology and more relevance than ever.
