The funky Toyota Aygo becomes even more attainable with the introduction of a three-door body style at a lower entry price than its five-door sibling.

The new three-door Aygo is available immediately and will be similar to the Fresh and Wild specification levels that have been available on the five-door Aygo range. Both versions will be equipped with Toyota’s acclaimed three cylinder 1 litre engine that is rated to deliver 50 kW and 93 Nm of torque.

“The introduction of the Aygo 3-door was primarily driven by customer demand. It was clear to us that many of our customers wanted this body style and now we can offer it. This model has also extended our A-segment offering to an even lower price range.

“With this in mind, and considering value added benefits such as a standard service plan, we are confident that the Aygo range now offers some of the best value in this segment,” says Calvyn Hamman, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing of Toyota South Africa Motors.

The Aygo’s offers even greater value thanks to its 1 litre engine. The engine, which has been a category winner in the World Engine of the Year awards for several years running, offers a combined fuel consumption figure of only 4.6 litres per 100 km and an emissions tax beating CO2 figure of 105 g/km.

The key difference between the Aygo 3dr and Aygo 5dr models is the price, which is exactly R6 000 per model less. This means that the 1.0 3dr Aygo Fresh will cost a recommended R106 100, while the 1.0 3dr Aygo Wild will retail for a recommended R116 500.

Both three-door versions still offer a high level of specification, including power steering, an air conditioner, ABS with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and emergency brake assistance (BA), two airbags, an immobiliser and a full sized spare wheel. Wild versions add, amongst other things, privacy glass in the rear and side glass and alloy wheels.

The Aygo 3-dr will also be equipped with a MicroDot security covering, in which the vehicle’s identification information is listed on microscopic elements which are sprayed on the various places in the vehicle. This allows police to trace and identify stolen vehicles, even when the vehicle has been taken apart and sold.

The Aygo is sold with a four year/60 000 kilometre service plan and a three year/100 000 kilometre warranty. The warranty includes roadside assistance in South Africa and neighbouring countries. The Aygo 3dr is available at all Toyota dealers nationwide.
