Toyota South Africa (TSAM) proudly unveils the latest jewel in its Crossover/SUV lineup—the Toyota Starlet Cross. This new addition to Toyota’s portfolio is designed to exceed expectations in both design and safety, reflecting the brand’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.

A New Era for TSAM’s Lineup
The Toyota Starlet Cross is set to enhance TSAM’s Crossover and SUV lineup while strengthening Toyota’s presence in the compact car segment. It joins the ranks of popular models such as the Vitz, Starlet, and Urban Cruiser. TSAM’s Vice President of Marketing, Glenn Crompton, underscores the Starlet Cross’s significance: “The Starlet Cross represents an exceptional addition to our diverse vehicle lineup. This move aligns with our sales and marketing strategy to adapt to evolving market preferences and deliver unparalleled customer satisfaction.”

Design Evolution: Where SUV Meets Hatchback
The Starlet Cross seamlessly blends SUV practicality with contemporary hatchback design, resulting in a vehicle that commands attention on the road. Its aerodynamic silhouette and striking front grille with chrome accents make a bold statement. The reprofiled LED headlamps, paired with Twin LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), not only enhance visibility but also add a touch of sophistication reminiscent of Toyota’s Urban Cruiser.

The dynamic 3-dimensional surface on the sides accentuates the vehicle’s athletic profile, while the rear features connected LED taillights with a Starlet-specific light signature. The sporty rear skid plate and roof end spoiler complete the design, adding both functionality and flair. Standing at 1,550mm in height, 3,995mm in length, and with a wheelbase of 2,520mm, the Starlet Cross offers ample space and stability. Its 16” wheels with a unique finish balance style and functionality.

Interior Excellence: Comfort Meets Connectivity
Inside the Starlet Cross, comfort and functionality are paramount. The cabin features a three-tone dashboard with premium finishes in charcoal, silver, and Bordeaux. High-quality cloth upholstery ensures long-distance comfort, while chrome accents enhance the vehicle’s sophisticated appeal. The leather multi-function steering wheel and ergonomic design elements provide added usability.

For tech enthusiasts, the Starlet Cross is equipped with a cutting-edge infotainment system. The centrally mounted display supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity (9” in XR, 7” in XS models), offering seamless integration with smartphones for navigation, music, and hands-free communication.

The Starlet Cross is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, delivering 77 kW at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. Customers can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission, catering to different driving preferences. The engine provides a balanced blend of performance and fuel efficiency, with consumption figures of 5.6l/100km for the manual and 5.8l/100km for the automatic.

Safety First: Comprehensive Protection
Safety is a top priority for the Starlet Cross. Standard features across all variants include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Assist Control (HAC), and ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). The vehicle is equipped with six airbags in XR models (front, side, and curtain) and Driver and Passenger airbags in XS models. Additional safety features include Electric Demister and ISOFIX points for child seat mounting.

The Starlet Cross offers a range of colors, including exclusive monochrome and bi-tone options. The XR model features additional perks such as a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, electrochromic rearview mirror, color multi-information display, wireless charger, and more. The XR model’s distinctive black and chrome side sill garnishes enhance its sporty demeanor.

Toyota continues its legacy of reliability with the Starlet Cross. Available in XS and XR variants, the vehicle promises a driving experience that redefines crossover standards. Toyota’s commitment to quality is backed by a 4-service/60,000 km service plan and a 3-year/100,000 km warranty. Customers can also opt for extended service and maintenance packages.

The Starlet Cross comes with the MyToyota profile, offering access to in-car WiFi (with a complimentary 25GB) and a suite of Connect services.
