Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has introduced a significant round of updates to the ever-popular Rumion, giving families, ride-hailing drivers and daily commuters even more reasons to consider the versatile people mover. The 2025 model brings meaningful enhancements in exterior design, safety technology and interior practicality, ensuring it remains one of the most compelling value offerings in its segment.
A Larger, Sharper Exterior
The Rumion’s refreshed exterior is more than cosmetic—it’s functional. Toyota has extended the roof by 120mm, widened the pillars by 22mm and increased the rear overhang by 40mm, subtle but impactful improvements that elevate both road presence and real-world practicality. The silhouette looks more purposeful, and the extended dimensions translate to easier loading and enhanced cabin spaciousness.
The updated rear design introduces a new bumper and redesigned rear combination lamps, while a roof-end spoiler and roof-side spoiler now come standard across the range. These additions complement the bold black mesh grille introduced previously, giving the Rumion a confident, cohesive and modern look.
Safety Takes a Meaningful Step Forward
The 2025 Rumion’s most notable improvements lie in occupant protection. Toyota has added Side and Curtain Airbags across all grades, significantly elevating the vehicle’s passive safety credentials.
For the third row, Toyota has introduced a third headrest—an important upgrade for full-occupancy travel. The second-row centre seatbelt has also been upgraded to a full three-point configuration, reinforcing Toyota’s commitment to secure family transport.
These enhancements make the Rumion one of the strongest safety propositions in its class.
Improved Convenience Throughout the Cabin
Inside, Toyota has focused on everyday usability and connectivity.
- Rumion SX models now gain a second-row Type-C charging port—essential for modern on-the-go lifestyles.
- Rumion TX models go further with Type-C charging sockets in both the second and third rows, ensuring that all passengers can keep their devices powered.
The interior retains the Rumion’s trademark spaciousness and practicality, making it ideal for families and fleet operators alike.
Trusted Powertrain Efficiency
Under the bonnet, the Rumion continues with Toyota’s proven 1.5-litre K15B four-cylinder engine, producing 77 kW and 138 Nm. Customers can choose between a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, depending on their preferred driving characteristics.
Fuel consumption remains impressively frugal at 6.2 l/100 km, with CO₂ emissions between 146–147 g/km. Top speeds are pegged at 175 km/h for the manual and 170 km/h for the automatic, making it efficient without compromising everyday usability.
A broad palette of exterior colours is available, including Mystic Pearl White, Premier Liquid Silver, Azure Blue, Seal Grey Metallic, Autumn Blaze Red, Cedar Brown and Shadow Black Pearl.
