Johannesburg – The Toyota Cup returns in July with a headline fixture that’s set to capture the imagination of the African footballing community: South African giants Kaizer Chiefs will face off against Ghana’s Asante Kotoko in a match that blends legacy, passion, and continental unity. Scheduled for Saturday, 26 July at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium, the second edition of this annual spectacle promises a day of electric football, vibrant culture, and unforgettable experiences.
Following its hugely successful debut in 2024—where Kaizer Chiefs hosted Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC in a sold-out Bloemfontein stadium—the Toyota Cup has already carved a space in the hearts of African football lovers. This year, the momentum continues, building on the fervour of last year’s cross-continental showcase and establishing itself as a landmark on the sporting calendar.
“We are honoured to welcome our friends from Ghana to South African soil,” said Jessica Motaung, Marketing and Commercial Director at Kaizer Chiefs. “Asante Kotoko is part of our shared history. The Toyota Cup allows Africa to unite through football and is a celebration of our legacy. Durban is not only the manufacturing hub of Toyota South Africa, but a perfect place to write the next chapter of our history after winning the Nedbank Cup in May at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.”
With the theme “Africa Unites”, the Toyota Cup is not just a football match—it’s a celebration of identity, heritage, and the possibilities that arise when sport bridges cultures. This year’s edition is infused with symbolic weight, bringing together two clubs steeped in history. Kaizer Chiefs and Asante Kotoko both enjoy passionate followings, storied legacies, and an unwavering belief in the power of football to inspire.
“Mobility, possibility, and connection are not just pillars of this tournament—they are core to who we are at Toyota,” said Tasneem Lorgat, General Manager of Marketing and Communications at Toyota South Africa Motors. “The Toyota Cup brings people together, creates unforgettable moments, and celebrates the rich football heritage of our continent.”

Few clubs on the continent match Asante Kotoko’s pedigree. With 50 official trophies and two CAF Champions League titles, the Ghanaian powerhouse arrives in South Africa with intent, pride, and deep respect for the occasion.
“It is with great joy and anticipation that we come to South Africa for the 2025 edition of the Toyota Cup,” said Edmund Awuah Asafu-Adjaye (Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah), Chairman of Asante Kotoko SC. “Football has always been a powerful bridge between people and nations, and this event shows what is possible when sport is supported by vision and purpose.”
Adding to the significance of the occasion, the SABC has joined as official broadcast partner, bringing the clash to millions of fans across the continent.
“This broadcast partnership cements the SABC’s position as a broadcaster for the people, with a keen interest in prioritising sport of national interest,” noted Themba Gwejela, SABC Group Executive: Corporate Affairs & Marketing. “Our audiences will be treated to exciting coverage of this prestigious match between iconic African soccer clubs.”
Beyond the pitch, the Toyota Cup promises a day of celebration. The festivities kick off at 10h00 with a live music concert presented by SAB, followed by a curtain-raiser between Kaizer Chiefs Legends and Zulu Kingdom Legends at 12h00. Expect crowd favourites like Doctor Khumalo, Sibusiso Zuma, Jabu Mahlangu, Delron Buckley, and more to rekindle the magic of yesteryear.
Fans in attendance will also stand the chance to win a brand-new Toyota Starlet during halftime. By simply SMSing their name, surname, and ticket barcode to 48952, they could be selected to drive off in style—a thrilling live giveaway that highlights the event’s spirit of reward and excitement.
Tickets are priced at just R80 and go on sale from 26 June at Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave outlets nationwide, as well as online. With demand expected to be high, fans are encouraged to secure their seats early for what promises to be a standout moment in African football.
One match. Two giants. One continent united. The 2025 Toyota Cup is more than a game—it’s a celebration of African excellence. Don’t miss your chance to be part of history.
