London, 31st May 2012: The UK’s most original art fair, the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair, returned to the Old Truman Brewery for its 8th annual event with an exciting line-up of artists and entertainment.
Over 70 top British artists and collectives including Sir Peter Blake, Polly Morgan, Mat Collishaw, Tracey Emin, Bob & Roberta Smith, Pam Hogg, Jessica Albarn, David David, Ian Monroe, Pure Evil and Turps Banana packed the boots of Vauxhall vintage cars with one-off artworks and incredible bargains.
The art-loving crowd included familiar faces including Jaime Winstone, Jarvis Cocker, Mr Hudson and Alison Mosshart.
This year the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair 2012 saw the introduction of the Handbag Disco in support of charity Just for Kids Law, which provides essential support, advice and representation to disadvantaged young people who find themselves in difficult situations with authority.
Celebrity owned handbags were donated by leading fashion icons and designers including Victoria Beckham, Tilda Swinton, Liberty Ross, Sophie Dahl, Barabara Hulanicki (the founder of BIBA), Pearl Lowe, Daisy Lowe, Jack French London, Emma Hope, Lulu Guinness, Mary Charteris, Maia Norman (Damian Hirst’s wife), Serena Rees, Matches, Martha Lane Fox and Alesha Dixon. Guests danced to music played by legendary Jarvis Cocker, Jeremy Healy, Gaz’s Rockin Blues, Wildcat Will and Murray Lachlan Young.
In addition there was a programme of performance based pieces, from The Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club Stage, on-the-bonnet snail racing on the Vauxhall Viva HA Deluxe, in-car scalextrix through the Vauxhall Firenza HP and a live ‘freezing’ of the Vauxhall Astra GTC by artist Oliver Guy Watkins.
Vauxhall Motors showcased its vintage vehicles at the event including the Firenza, Victor, Viva, Chevette, Cavalier, Nova, Velux as well as the new award-winning Vauxhall Ampera.
Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair founder and curator, Karen Ashton, commented on the introduction of the Handbag Disco to this year’s event, “The Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair just gets better every year and while it will be hard to top the amazing line-up we presented in 2011 we think we can, by adding elements to build and develop both our audience, line-up and incredible art ‘booty’.”
