BLOW YOUR MIND WITH THE NAKED SCIENTIST

For four days only, from 18-21 April

Dr Christopher Smith, doctor, PhD and consultant virologist at Cambridge University and Addenbrooke’s Hospital in England, is better known to South Africans as the Naked Scientist. Renowned for his almost super-human ability to answer practically any question thrown at him, the Naked Scientist is once again flying south this Easter weekend, to bring his live interactive show to Rand Show visitors.

Naked Scientist

From Friday, 18 April to Monday, 21 April, join the Naked Scientist and his team at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day for two spectacular and explosive science shows that will blow your socks off. Entitled “Blow your Mind!”, each show will be a mix of explosive chemistry and physics, with a healthy measure of brain science.

There will also be open-mic interactive Q&A sessions each day at 1 p.m., where Rand Show visitors can get answers to all the questions of life’s mysteries from a bunch of serious brainiacs.

APPEARING LIVE ON THE SHOWTIME STAGE

If to you, great entertainment means kicking back and jiving along to great sounds, then the Rand Show’s Showtime Stage is for you.

Over the show weekends, some of South Africa’s top performers and bands will entertain Rand Show visitors. Variety is the name of the game, from the deep, gravel-voiced singing of Afrikaans hit singer, Theuns Jordaan, and the entertaining songs of popular trilingual singer Dozi, to the upbeat swing hits of Swing City, a group that brings together the popular Loyiso Bala of TKZee and Bala Brothers fame, Nathan Ro of neon-rock band Lonehill Estate, and Graeme Watkins from indie rock outfit, The Graeme Watkins Project.

There’s also the ever-trendy and up-tempo Dr Victor, and one of SA’s top live acts, DENIM. To this add Tokyo Groove with its reputation as a band that can really get a party started, and Afrikaans rock sensation, Ghapi and his band. Ghapi will also do a mini drumming workshop before his show, inviting kids up on stage for a crash course in drumming, before they go head to head in a drumming competition.

Singer and actor Emo Adams, host of kykNET’s “Jou Show Met Emo”, joins the line-up, with jazz band Take Note, Madison Band, country singer JJ Strydom, and Idols 2010 finalist, Boki Ntsime, whose band won The Keg Battle of the Bands, rounding off the celebrity list.

IT’S SUPER 15 RUGBY TIME!

Don’t miss a second of the Super 15 matches on Saturday, 26 April.

Grab a beer and join other Rand Show rugby fans for the Bulls versus Western Force match at 11:30 a.m and the Cheetahs versus Stormers match at 5 p.m., broadcast live on the Rand Show’s big screens.

Before the match, at 10:30 a.m., there is Rugby Talk with Naas Botha and Ashwin Willemse, and the line-dancing Rodeo Girls will be there to keep the ‘gees’ pumping throughout the day.
