The Crucial Fourth Round
The fourth round of the South African Endurance Series (SAES) Championship is poised to be a pivotal event, especially for those chasing points and aiming to leave a mark at the renowned Kyalami circuit. With the previous three rounds delivering last-lap dramas, the expectations for Kyalami are high, promising an intense and closely-fought race.

Adjust4Sleep/Rico Barlow Nova NP02’s Redemption Quest
Among the teams aiming for top honors is the Adjust4Sleep/Rico Barlow Nova NP02, led by Nick Adcock and supported by co-drivers Michael Jensen and Charl Visser. The trio has their sights set on a strong finish, especially after their previous disappointment at Aldo Scribante in Gqeberha where a gearbox failure dashed their hopes before the race even began.

Rico Barlow, the team principal, expressed his confidence in the rebuilt gearbox, stating, “I am confident it will not pose any problems at Kyalami and we are most certainly looking to get a good finish.”

Rivals and Rebounding Spirits
The Into Africa Racing team, featuring Xolile Letlaka and Stuart White in their Lamborghini Huracan, is equally determined to make up for their setback in Gqeberha, where a penalty demoted them from first to second place. Their resolve to cross the finish line first at Kyalami is palpable.

Paul Hill and Bradley Liebenberg in the Promigen Audi, who inherited the win in Gqeberha, are also eager to prove their mettle with an outright victory. They face stiff competition from the BBR Racing trio of Henk Lategan, Hein Lategan, and Verissimo Tavares, who are equally driven to clinch the top spot.

Championship Leaders and Strategic Battles
Consistency has been key for the championship log leaders, the Pple Group trio of Phillip Meyer, Mark Harvey, and Dean Wolson, who have amassed 100 points after three rounds. They are closely followed by Hill and Liebenberg, with BBR Racing and Into Africa not far behind.

Within the SAES is the Backdraft Roadster Championship, led by the Pple Group with Harm and Barend Pretorius of Pesty Racing in second place. The competition is fierce, with the Tradecore Racing trio hot on their heels.

Class B, featuring GT4 and modified Backdraft cars, sees Lonika Maartens in the lead, though her absence from this event opens the door for Fabienne Lanz and Antony Pretorius to capitalize. In Class C, Karah Hill and Jurie Swart lead in their Kalex VW Polo, while David and Roberto Franco dominate Class D in their VW Supa Polo.

The Wild Cards and New Contenders
Kyalami will also see the debut of several new cars, including the Harp Motorsports Ginetta G57, a second Into Africa Lamborghini Huracan, and the Spheremotorsport Toyota Altezza. Regular contenders like Mike McLoughlin and Steve Clark will return with their Backdraft Carbon Car, and MJR Motorsport will bring back their Audi R8 LMS GT3.

Other notable entries include Samlin Racing’s Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo 2, Stradale Motorsport’s new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup MR Gen II, and the Kia Le Mans Racing’s KIA Picanto Turbo.

The Support Races
The event also features the Motorcycle Racing Series SA (MRSSA), bringing an added layer of excitement with a variety of classes and a large field of competitors. Additionally, the Silver Cup Series and Formula Super Vee will provide thrilling support races, ensuring a full day of action for spectators.

Anticipation and Unpredictability
With the sunset and fading light towards the 18:00 finish, the Kyalami race is set to challenge the drivers’ endurance and skill, making it a must-watch event. As the fourth round concludes, the points tally will offer a glimpse into the championship’s future, adding another layer of intrigue to an already high-stakes competition.

In summary, the 4 Hours of Kyalami promises to be a spectacular showcase of endurance racing, with top teams and drivers battling for supremacy in what could be the most exciting round of the SAES Championship yet.
