Since its debut in 2021, the BMW iX has set the standard as the brand’s first purpose-built all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). With its bold design, cutting-edge technology, and electrifying performance, the iX has captured the attention of automotive enthusiasts and electric vehicle (EV) aficionados alike. Now, the iX returns in an even more potent and refined form, combining increased power, a sportier design, and an impressive boost in electric range.

BMW’s refreshed iX range introduces three exciting new variants: the BMW iX xDrive45, BMW iX xDrive60 M Sport, and the high-performance BMW iX M70 xDrive. Each model brings its own unique blend of power, luxury, and technology, with the iX xDrive60 M Sport leading the charge with up to 426 miles (WLTP) of single-charge range—a competitive benchmark in the segment.

Enhanced Performance and Power Across the Range

The new iX range stands as a testament to BMW’s commitment to performance, with each model receiving an uplift in power.

  • The BMW iX xDrive45 produces 408 hp and accelerates from 0-62 mph in just 5.1 seconds. This marks an 82 hp increase over its predecessor, offering a quicker, more responsive drive.
  • The BMW iX xDrive60 M Sport pushes this even further, with 544 hp and a 0-62 mph time of 4.6 seconds, offering thrilling performance and agility.
  • The BMW iX M70 xDrive sits at the pinnacle of the range, with an exhilarating 659 hp and an impressive 0-62 mph time of 3.8 seconds. With 1,015 Nm of torque available at launch control, it offers a driving experience that is nothing short of electrifying.

These performance gains are facilitated by advanced battery technology, new inverter technology, and redeveloped performance electronics, ensuring a more efficient transfer of power and greater range. With up to 426 miles of range in the iX xDrive60 M Sport and a 40% increase in overall range compared to previous models, BMW has significantly elevated the iX’s capabilities.

Bold Exterior Design and M Sport Trims

The exterior of the new BMW iX reflects its increased performance, boasting a bold design that commands attention. The M Sport trim enhances this presence with sculpted front and rear aprons, new aerodynamically optimized wheels, and larger air intakes that accentuate the iX’s athletic character.

For the first time, 23-inch M light-alloy wheels are available, exclusive to this segment. The BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille, available on the iX M70 xDrive, adds a touch of sophistication, lighting up the front end with a striking glow that sets the iX apart from all other SUVs.

The design language is carried through to the interior, with enhanced trims reflecting the sporty yet luxurious nature of the vehicle. The M Sport interior package further elevates the cabin, featuring exclusive materials and finishes that complement the iX’s performance-focused design.

A Cutting-Edge Driving Experience

With the new iX, BMW has redefined the driving experience, offering a fine-tuned chassis and suspension setup that balances sporty dynamics with comfort. The double-wishbone front axle and five-link rear axle are designed for optimal handling and precision. The BMW iX M70 xDrive takes this a step further with adaptive suspension, Integral Active Steering, and a sports brake system with red-painted calipers, ensuring an unmatched driving experience.

Enhanced Charging and Efficiency

BMW has made significant strides in improving the iX’s charging capabilities, allowing for more efficient and quicker recharges. The iX xDrive60 and iX M70 xDrive can now charge at up to 195 kW of direct current, while the iX xDrive45 can charge at up to 175 kW. This, combined with improvements in battery management and heating, ensures the iX remains ready to hit the road with minimal downtime.

The MAX RANGE function allows drivers to extend the iX’s range by up to 25% before requiring a recharge, making long-distance travel even more feasible. The BMW Maps navigation system also integrates charging station locations and real-time availability, enhancing the overall user experience during long journeys.

Next-Level Technology and Automated Driving

The BMW iX is also equipped with the latest in driving assistance systems. Standard across all models is Driving Assistant Plus, which includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go functionality, front collision warning, and Parking Assistant. For those looking for even more advanced features, the Parking Assistant Professional package is available, enabling the vehicle to park and manoeuvre autonomously using a smartphone.

Inside, the iX continues BMW’s commitment to progressive luxury, with spacious and meticulously designed interiors. The M Sport trim enhances the interior, offering a contemporary and sophisticated design that complements the vehicle’s dynamic performance.

Final Thoughts

With the new iX, BMW has proven that electric vehicles can offer both performance and luxury in equal measure. From the power and range to the striking design and cutting-edge technology, the iX remains at the forefront of the EV revolution. With prices starting at £74,400 and deliveries beginning in May 2025, the new BMW iX is set to take the luxury electric SUV market by storm.

Whether you opt for the BMW iX xDrive45, the sportier iX xDrive60 M Sport, or the high-performance iX M70 xDrive, each model offers a unique blend of power, design, and efficiency, setting new benchmarks in the electric vehicle segment.
