Modena, Italy – 15 May 2025 – Maserati, the legendary marque of Italian motoring excellence, is bringing its icons home. In a powerful gesture that intertwines heritage with innovation, Maserati has announced the return of GranTurismo and GranCabrio production to the historic Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena. Starting from the fourth quarter of 2025, these flagship grand tourers will once again be crafted in the birthplace of the Trident, marking a pivotal moment in the brand’s contemporary evolution.
This decision is more than symbolic—it reaffirms Maserati’s unwavering commitment to the beating heart of Italy’s Motor Valley. For over 80 years, Modena has been synonymous with Maserati’s identity, where elegance, racing pedigree, and avant-garde engineering have merged to shape some of the world’s most coveted automobiles. With this move, Maserati not only celebrates its storied past but sets the stage for a bold, forward-thinking future.
Crafting Legacy with Cutting-Edge Precision
The Viale Ciro Menotti facility stands as a testament to Italian craftsmanship and technological prowess. Renowned for assembling the superlative MC20 and its convertible sibling, the MC20 Cielo, the plant also produces the recently unveiled GT2 Stradale—each powered by the revolutionary Maserati Nettuno engine. Born and bred in Modena, this twin-turbo V6 boasts patented pre-chamber combustion technology derived from Formula 1, making it the pinnacle of engineering artistry in a production car.
Now, this same spirit of innovation and performance will breathe life into the new generation of GranTurismo and GranCabrio models. With both internal combustion and 100% electric Folgore variants planned, Maserati is proving that Italian luxury need not compromise on sustainability or driving excitement.
Santo Ficili, CEO of Maserati, shared the strategic significance of this move:
“Bringing the GranTurismo and GranCabrio back to Modena is a proud and strategic decision that combines our industrial heritage with the capabilities of the future. We are strengthening our roots while offering the flexibility and innovation that our customers expect.”

The Trident’s Customisation Capital
More than a production site, the Modena facility is becoming a sanctuary of bespoke luxury. The recently launched Officine Fuoriserie Maserati allows customers to co-create truly one-of-a-kind vehicles. From exclusive paint finishes to personalised details, Maserati clients are now more deeply involved in the design journey than ever before.
With dedicated multi-energy platforms and flexible production lines, the plant will be capable of assembling all GranTurismo and GranCabrio variants—whether powered by traditional engines or electric drivetrains—on a single, unified line. This forward-thinking approach underscores Maserati’s commitment to both innovation and efficiency, with no sacrifice to craftsmanship or quality.
A Glorious Return, A Rich Heritage
First unveiled in 2007 and 2009 respectively, the GranTurismo and GranCabrio instantly etched themselves into the annals of automotive history. Designed by Pininfarina, the original GranTurismo paid homage to the iconic 1947 A6 1500, while reinterpreting the Italian grand tourer ethos for the modern era. Over their production lifespans, these models garnered widespread acclaim, selling over 40,000 units worldwide and becoming emblematic of Maserati’s elegant performance DNA.
The final unit of the previous generation—the striking GranTurismo Zeda—rolled off the Modena line in 2019, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a transformative chapter. Production then shifted to Mirafiori in Turin, where Maserati introduced the Folgore variant—its first fully electric grand tourer.
Now, with the return to Modena, Maserati completes a meaningful circle.
Building the Future, Proudly Italian
This move also comes as part of Maserati’s Year of the Trident celebrations, marking a century since the debut of the iconic logo and nearing 100 years since the brand’s first racing victory at the 1926 Targa Florio. As Maserati approaches this dual milestone, it does so with renewed confidence, firmly rooted in its Modenese heritage.
By anchoring its future in its historical home, Maserati positions Modena as the Stellantis Group’s centre of luxury excellence. It’s a vision not only about cars, but about community, craftsmanship, and continuity.
In a world increasingly shaped by electrification and automation, Maserati is proving that the soul of driving—and the soul of Italy—remain undiminished. The return of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio to Viale Ciro Menotti isn’t just a logistical move; it’s a declaration. A testament to the enduring power of Italian performance, handcrafted luxury, and a Trident that continues to pierce through time.
Welcome home, GranTurismo. Welcome home, GranCabrio.
