Ford Motor Company has unveiled concept sketches of a truly one-of-a-kind creation: the Ranger Raptor North Edition. This bespoke bakkie, designed as the ultimate vehicle for both everyday tasks and magical, high-speed holiday deliveries, is set to redefine the boundaries of both practicality and imagination. Though the vehicle’s production remains an unconfirmed rumor, Ford’s collaboration with the world’s most famous gift-giver, Kris Kringle, has brought forth a highly imaginative concept that combines rugged off-road capability with festive charm.
An Everyday Sleigh for the Modern Santa
Kris Kringle, known for his iconic sleigh and reindeer, was on the hunt for a versatile vehicle that could serve as his “everyday sleigh.” While his traditional sleigh is synonymous with Christmas Eve, Kringle needed a machine that could be used year-round. The Ranger Raptor North Edition meets this brief perfectly – a powerful, durable vehicle that’s as capable on city streets as it is off-road.
“I wanted something that could handle both the holiday season and my off-duty adventures,” Kringle explained. “The Ranger Raptor North Edition was the perfect choice. It’s got everything I need – from heated hot chocolate holders to flight capabilities.”
A Global Collaboration to Create the Ultimate Sleigh
The development of this concept vehicle involved a collaboration between Ford Design in Australia, Ford’s Experimental Laboratory Foundation (ELF) in the U.S., and even a team at the North Pole. Designer Kirby Masterman led the Australian team and worked closely with experts from across the globe to bring this whimsical vision to life. Despite the challenging 10-week timeline, Masterman expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “It was an intense process, but with the incredible support of my team, we brought something truly unique to the table.”
Flight capability, of course, was essential for Kringle. To accommodate this, Ford’s team re-engineered the Levacar Mach 1 compressed air system and incorporated Mistletoe-class rocket technology. This allows the Ranger Raptor North Edition to lift off the ground with enough power to reach speeds exceeding 4.7 million km/h, making it suitable for everything from daily errands to high-altitude Christmas Eve runs.

Key Features of the Ranger Raptor North Edition
Roof Access: In a nod to Kringle’s unconventional means of entry, Ford replaced the Ranger Raptor’s standard doors with a roof port, allowing Kringle to enter through the roof, much like his traditional chimney escapades.
Heated Hot Chocolate Holders: With wintery days in mind, the Ranger Raptor features redesigned cup holders equipped with a no-burn heating element to keep hot chocolate at the perfect temperature of 58°C – ideal for sipping on long winter nights.
Integrated Tailgate Barbecue: The Ranger Raptor’s tailgate has been upgraded with a full-width, self-cleaning barbecue hot plate, perfect for enjoying a relaxing cookout at Kringle’s holiday home in Bonnie Doon, Australia.
Infinity Load Box: The pièce de résistance of this vehicle is its revolutionary infinity load box, capable of storing gifts for over 800 million children. Featuring a safe return system and a powered cover for easy use outside of its delivery function, it’s as versatile as it is spacious.
Gingerbread-Crumb SYNC® Infotainment: The bespoke SYNC® system in the North Edition is infused with AI capabilities, ensuring seamless navigation, secure list management, and even weather monitoring. All while keeping Kringle’s hands free for the important task of gift distribution.
Enhanced F-O-R-D Grille: This Raptor comes equipped with a special grille made from Unobtanium, a material that resists heat and friction at speeds near the speed of light. It ensures that both the vehicle and its occupants remain intact as they soar across the sky at 99 percent the speed of light.
Flight System: Ford has reimagined its Levacar Mach 1 levitation system to give the Ranger Raptor North Edition the ability to jump into flight. Mistletoe-class rockets provide thrust, while retractable wings ensure stability and control at supersonic speeds.
The Future of Everyday Sleighs
As Max Wolff, design director at Ford, puts it, “From all of us at Ford Motor Company, we’d like to wish everyone a happy holiday season. We’re honored that Kris trusted us with this project – though I’m sure we’ll be cleaning mince pie crumbs out of Kirby’s computer for months!”
With the Ranger Raptor North Edition, Ford has taken the concept of the everyday vehicle to new, fantastical heights. A true blend of practicality and festive flair, this one-off creation has pushed the limits of automotive innovation – and left us all dreaming of a holiday season spent cruising through the skies.
