The Fiat Group was among those participating in the “Human Race”, a ten kilometer race involving over one million people in 25 cities around the world on August 31st, united in the spirit of sport and solidarity.

The initiative, which was organized by Nike, will raise funds for three international humanitarian organizations: the WWF, the U.N. Refugee Agency, and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

The Group’s participation in the Human Race took the form of several teams of employees, dealers and customers. CNH Case New Holland, a company that is active in the farming and earth-moving equipment industry, fielded a team of approximately 50 “Fiat Athletes”, who simultaneously competed in four locations – London, Shanghai, Chicago and Rome.

In Italy, two athletes from the Fabbrica Italiana Atleti, the new team of champions that represents Italy at international level and which is accompanied by Fiat at its most important competitions, also took part in the race, which was held in Rome’s historical center: Andrew Howe, European long-jump champion, and Margherita Granbassi, world fencing champion and recent bronze medal winner at the Beijing Olympics.

The Fiat Group’s support for athletics, demonstrated in 2006 by its sponsorship of the 20th Winter Olympic Games in Turin, has been reaffirmed by the many projects undertaken in recent years.

In addition to Fabbrica Italiana Atleti, the Group sponsors the Fiat Freestyle Team and the Fiat Yamaha Team under the Fiat brand; the SuperBike Championship and sailing through Alfa Romeo; fencing and ice skating through Lancia; Juventus through New Holland; the Italian National Rugby Team and the All Blacks through Iveco; and the Italian National Football Team through Fiat Professional.
