Johannesburg, October 7, 2011: Tata Motors has showcased its new range of commercial and passenger vehicles, at the Johannesburg International Motor Show 2011. The company launched the luxurious, Tata Manza and the Tata Prima range of World Trucks in the South Africa today.

Tata Manza: Equipped with 66kw Safire petrol & Quadrajet diesel engines, the Tata Manza purrs power. The vehicle has high quality surfaces, cat-eye headlamps, graceful front, stylized roof antenna and is fitted with powered mirrors.

The segment defining headroom, width, legroom, and the rear seat angle ensure comfortable seating. The ergonomically designed height-adjustable driver’s seat with lumber support and tilt-adjustable steering wheel ensure a better driving experience. Tata Manza has one of the most capacious boot space in its class with a capacity of 460 litres. It is equipped with large glove box. Apart from the front and rear cup holders under seat storage tray has also been provided. The fully integrated 2-DIN stereo system with Blue 5 (that seamlessly makes the music system become your phone), steering mounted control, Aux-in, USB port & DIS enhance infotainment.

Top of the line safety & security features like ABS, airbags, multistage drive away auto locking, rear demister, collapsible steering, energy absorbing steering wheel, door intrusion beam for side impact ensure complete safety.

Tata Prima range of World Trucks:  The Tata Prima range was first introduced in 2008 in India as the company’s ‘Global’ truck. Tata Motors’ Prima truck range has been conferred with a prestigious South Korean award – the Grand Prize of 2009 Good Design selection.

The range has been designed to offer several applications to meet varied end-user requirements in South Africa.  The Tata Prima is tailor-made for smooth movement to ensure optimum vehicle usage. It is equipped with a data logger that helps measure vehicle performance and driving practices along several parameters on a daily basis, and the increased power as compared to the existing range ensures faster trips, higher profitability and an entry into the premium truck segment of South Africa.  Equipped with strong aggregates, such as a robust chassis frame and suspension, the Tata Prima can overcome any terrain. An air-conditioned cabin, data logger, suspended driver seat and an ergonomically designed instrument cluster improve driver efficiency, resulting in increased productivity and faster returns on investment.

The Prima truck’s cab has been styled in Italy by one of its best design houses. Engine technology has come from USA and Europe. Gearbox expertise – from both USA and Germany. Knowhow for the chassis frame has come from Mexico. The tried and tested suspension has its origins in USA. The sheet metal dies have been sourced from the best in Japan and Korea. And the cab has been fabricated with Swedish precision on a robotic weld line.

The range has been jointly developed by Tata Motors and its two subsidiaries, Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company in South Korea and the Tata Motors European Technical Centre in the UK. The company has harnessed the best of inputs and technologies — in styling, engines, transmission, suspension, chassis frames, fabrication and dies.

Their design and manufacture conform to safety regulations and emission standards that differ from state to state, country to country, thus, appealing to customers across continents. The new range is Euro III, Euro IV compliant, and Euro V ready.

Tata Motors will begin distribution of the Prima 4938S 6X4 tractor, Prima 4038S 4X2 tractor, Prima 4028S 4X2 tractor, Prima 2528K 6X4 10cum box-tipper, Prima 2538K 6X4 14cum box-tipper, Prima 3138K 8X4 19cum scoop-tipper, in South Africa by early 2012.  The company has already equipped its service network in South Africa to support the Tata Prima range supported by decade long presence of Tata Motors in South Africa in Bakkies, passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, medium, heavy & extra heavy commercial vehicles.

Tata Prima models unveiled at the Motors Show are as follows:

Tata Prima 4938S 6X4: Tata Prima 4938S 6X4 is a 3 axle, 49-tonne GVW tractor with a 9-speed Eaton transmission. The 6X4 tractor is powered by Cummins ISLe engine which has maximum power of 370hp. The product features include new generation brakes, ABS and specialized axles for heavy duty and high speed application. The Prima 4938S tractor-trailer is ideal for applications like container transport, refrigerated bodies, tautliner bodies, furniture removal, Steel, cement etc. The tractor’s spacious air-conditioned cabin includes reclining seats, adjustable steering wheels and arm rests for driver comfort. It comes with two sleeper bunks with an ambience control system near the sleeping bunks for controlling conditions within the cabin to ensure a comfortable sleep. The tractor is specially designed to facilitate long-distance travel and every feature is ergonomically designed to suit the driver comfort. These features are designed to induce longer and more trips. The driving comforts enable the vehicle to operate for long hours and can cover over 1200 kms each day thereby offering faster turnaround times. Equipped with strong aggregates like robust Metalsa chassis frame and Hendrickson suspension, the Tata Prima 4938S can overcome any terrain. Thus, the Tata Prima LPS 4938 enhances productivity and increases profitability for its owners.

Tata Prima 4038S 4×2: Tata Prima 4038S 4X2 is a 2 axle, 40-tonne GVW tractor with a 9-speed Eaton transmission. The 4X2 tractor is powered by Cummins ISLe engine which has maximum power of 370hp. The product features include new generation brakes, ABS and specialized axles for heavy duty and high speed application. The Prima 4038S tractor-trailer is ideal for carrying freight at very high speeds both within and outside the city. The loading and unloading time of these trailers is lower and hence it ensures faster turnaround time. The tractor’s spacious air-conditioned cabin includes reclining seats, adjustable steering wheels and arm rests for driver comfort. It comes with two sleeper bunks with an ambience control system near the sleeping bunks for controlling conditions within the cabin to ensure a comfortable sleep. The tractor is specially designed to facilitate both short and long-distance travel and every feature is ergonomically designed to ensure driver comfort for better productivity. Equipped with strong aggregates like robust Metalsa chassis frame and Hendrickson suspension, the Tata Prima 4038S can overcome any terrain.  The Tata Prima 4038S enhances productivity, turnaround time and reduces costs with a better fuel economy.

Tata Prima 2528K 6×4 rigid: Tata Prima 2528K is a 3 axle, 25-tonne GVW tipper with a 9-speed ZF transmission. The 6X4 tipper is powered by Cummins ISBe engine which has maximum power of 266hp. The product features include new generation brakes, pneumatically suspended cabin, ABS and single reduction axle for   high speed applications. The tipper comes with a lighter frame, lighter axles and a 10cum body for better payload and faster on road operations. The Tata Prima 2528K tipper is ideal for carrying gravel, sand, earth and other applications specific to construction industry. The tipper has a spacious air-conditioned non sleeper cabin that includes reclining seats, adjustable steering wheels and arm rests for driver comfort. The tipper is specially designed to facilitate short-distance movement of materials and every feature is ergonomically designed to ensure the driver comfort. The driving comforts enable the driver to operate without getting fatigued for long hours each day thereby offering faster turnaround time. Equipped with strong aggregates like robust Metalsa chassis frame and Hendrickson suspension, the Tata Prima 2528K is specially designed for on road applications in the tipper segment positioning itself as a rugged & fast vehicle in its segment. In a nutshell, Tata Prima 2528K enhances productivity and increases profitability for its owners by ensuring lower maintenance and faster turnaround times.

Tata Prima 3138K 8×4 tipper: Tata Prima 3138K is a 4 axle, 31-tonne GVW tipper with a 9-speed Eaton transmission. The 8X4 tipper is powered by Cummins ISLe engine which has maximum power of 370hp. The product features include new generation brakes, pneumatically suspended cabin, ABS and hub reduction axle specially designed for mining operations. The tipper comes with a robust frame, dual reduction axles and a 19cum rock body for better payload and faster tipping time. The Tata Prima 3138K tipper is ideal for carrying coal ore, iron ore, limestone and other applications involved in heavy mining industry as well as similar off road applications. The tipper has spacious air-conditioned non sleeper cabin that includes reclining seats, adjustable steering wheels and arm rests for enhanced driver comfort. The driving comforts enable the driver to operate without getting fatigued for long hours each day thereby offering faster turnaround time. The tipper is specially designed to facilitate short-distance movement of ore within the mines and every feature on the vehicle facilitates the operation required  Equipped with strong aggregates like robust Metalsa chassis frame and Hendrickson suspension, the Tata Prima 3138K is specially designed for  off-road applications in tipper segment and therefore can overcome any terrain due to very high gradeability. Tata Prima 3138K enhances productivity through higher capacity and robust aggregates.

Passenger vehicle on display:

Tata Vista: The new-generation hatchback has been given a complete makeover. The Vista hatch is bigger than the earlier generation Indica in length and height. The wheelbase of Vista is 2470 mm as compared to 2400 mm of earlier Indica. Vista is a spacious and comfortable 5 seater hatch. The rear sloping wind screen also increases the sense of spaciousness in the passenger cabin. The Indica Vista is available with a new range of world class diesel and petrol engines and transmissions with a new suspension. The car is being offered with the new 1.3 litre QUADRAJET Diesel engine and 1.4 litre Safire Petrol engines.

The top end Vista Ignis has 4 spoke steering wheel which sports audio controls, which controls a fully integrated 2-DIN music system. It offers connectivity via USB, Auxiliary input and Bluetooth using the Blue 5 technology that helps pair upto 5 mobile phones. Outer rear view mirrors can be adjusted electrically using the joystick on the drivers side door pad and electrically operated HVAC controls add style and convenience.

Besides, Vista has adjustable driving positions with tilt-adjustable steering wheels and height adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support. In the rear, the 60:40 flip and fold rear seat makes room for luggage.

Four top of the line safety & security features like ABS with EBD, dual airbags, crumple zones and side intrusion beams complete safety of the passengers.

Other commercial vehicles unveiled:

Tata Venture: The Tata Venture is the latest multi purpose van from Tata Motors’s stable. With the footprint & maneuverability of a hatchback car & the interior space of a utility vehicle, the Tata Venture offers big surprises in a small package. With 7 comfortable seats and all wheel independent suspension, it has been designed to make your journeys more enjoyable. The spacious interiors & features such as HVAC, power steering, power windows and reverse parking aid addresses the comfort & convenience requirements of both the driver and passengers. Powered by a 1.4L turbo charged diesel engine, it offers the best in class fuel efficiency.

Tata Super ACE: Tata Super ACE is a combination of new age design and cutting edge technology. Tata Super ACE is the latest 1 tonne mini-truck and supplements its existing bakkie range in South Africa offering “more value for money” to its customers. Strong and spacious Tata Super ACE is powered by a 1.4L turbo charged diesel engine which delivers 70 HP (52kW) and a peak torque of 135 NM. With a full 1 tonne loading capacity and the longest loading deck in its class, it gives customers the required tool to keep pace with growing business & delivery needs. With best in class fuel efficiency, the Tata Super ACE offers better earnings and better savings making it the ideal choice for any business owner.

Tata Xenon CNG: The CNG is an alternate fossil fuel and due to the absence of any lead or benzene content in CNG, it is a cleaner and environment friendly fuel. CNG-powered vehicles have lower maintenance costs when compared with other fuel-powered vehicles. In CNG powered vehicles, the Carbon monoxide emissions are reduced substantially as compared to diesel and petrol powered vehicles.

Powered by a 2.1 litre Tata engine churning out 70 Kw @ 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 175 Nm @ 3750 rpm, the Tata Xenon CNG is configured as a mono-fuel factory-fitted CNG vehicle, thereby offering the customer distinct advantages like optimal power & torque, better fuel efficiency (12 km per kg), smoother ride and higher levels of safety. Tata Xenon CNG’s frugal fuel consumption, a payload of over 1 tonne and one of  the largest dropside bed in its class (2.46m x 1.78m) makes it an ideal vehicle for carrying varied loads while offering the customer extra savings.

Tata Xenon 2.2 L Cargo Box:  The new Tata Xenon 2.2 L Cargo Box is more than just a bakkie, it is a reliable business partner as it helps strike a perfect balance between power and functionality. Boasting the longest wheel-base in its class, the Tata Xenon Cargo Box is powered by a 2.2l common rail diesel engine, which punches a peak power of 103kW and 320Nm of forceful torque. Safety is enhanced by an anti-lock braking system (ABS). The Xenon Cargo Box comes in 4 body options – Dropside, Cargo Body, Flatbed, Cattle rail. Its generous load space allows you to carry over a ton. The sturdy design and good power makes it the vehicle for commercial, industrial and agricultural applications.

Tata Xenon 2.2 L Double Cab 4×4: The Tata Xenon 4×4 is aptly described as an adventurous bakkie that confidently yearns for the challenge of the roughest 4×4 terrain. It has a 26 degree approach angle and 22 degree departure angle in addition to an exceptional turning radius. This coupled with the heady torque of 320Nm at a wide range of RPM’s (1700 to 2700) enables it to tackle the most challenging 4×4 trail. Another useful aspect of this bakkie is the “Shift on the Fly” feature. This feature allows the driver to change into 4×2 or a 4×4 drive without having to come to a complete stop. The Tata Xenon is a versatile pick up available in single cab and double cab versions with payload options to suit varied business requirements. As per the Gerotek fuel efficiency tests, the Tata Xenon single cab range was found to be one of the most fuel efficient pickups among the major 1T bakkie players in the market. The Tata Xenon 2.2 Double cab 4×4 is lightest on the fuel with it winning the Total Economy run in Double cab 4×4 category. Stylish looks and comfortable interiors coupled with superior fuel economy make this vehicle an ideal choice for business or leisure applications.

Tata LPO 1623 CNG bus: The Tata LPO 1623 CNG bus is an ultra modern, air-conditioned, low entry bus. The bus attracts commuters as it has spacious interiors, wide spacious window panes that offer a full and clear view, comfortable seating and adequate legroom. The bus comes with several safety features for passengers, which includes grab handles with slip resistant covers, wide jackknife cross doors with a buzzer that must be closed before the bus can move, windows with rubber  beading, emergency exit door that opens from top to bottom.

Tata LPO 1823 Starbus 65 Commuter bus: The new Tata LPO 1823 Commuter bus is powered by the world class, Tata Cummins engine that offers unmatched reliability along with optimum performance. Equipped with a powerful turbocharged & intercooled Euro II 235 HP engine, delivering a peak torque of 800 Nm @1500 rpm & flat torque curve, this bus is tailor-made for the South African bus market. This bus also incorporates several features that offer enhance safety for passengers and will save on running costs because of lower maintenance, adding to profits.

Tata Starbus 34 Ultra (also known as the Tata Y1 BUS): Being present in the LCV truck and bus segment in South Africa for more than a decade, Tata Motors has designed and developed the Tata Starbus Ultra range for the market. The bus body is built by Tata Motors Marcopolo Ltd in India and is derived from the Global LCV platform. The bus offers best-in-class operating economics, in terms of seats, fuel efficiency, service intervals and reliability. Their design and manufacture conform to new safety regulations and emission standards and meet the Euro III, Euro IV norms, and are Euro V ready. The range is equipped with a new generation 4 valve Common Rail engine, which is capable of delivering up to 120 Kmph, good pick up for faster trips and lowest NVH for comfortable ride. With a precise gear shift mechanism, air-condition (optional), data logger, suspended driver seat, instrument cluster, strong aggregates & chassis frame, softer and durable suspension, the Tata Star bus Ultra bus will be a winner in city and highway applications.

Novus 7548 6×4 Tractor: Tata Daewoo introduces next generation of Novus tractor – V3TXF.
The V3TXF has a reliable & powerful performance thorough gearbox combination of Cummins ISX engine and Eaton fuller automated transmission (FO-18E318B).  With a strong power train delivering maximum power of 354kw @2,100 rpm, the V3TXF guarantees 75 tonne G.C.W across diverse terrains and strong brake efficiency, operated by Jake Brake. The latest gearbox model of Eaton enables high torque performance (2,509N.m@1,200 rpm) in order to provide powerful gradeability in high slope areas. To improve driver comfort, the vehicle is equipped with cab-air suspension, cruse control and comes with the option of double bed for long distance driving.

Tata LPTA 1623 4×4: Armed Forces across the world need a vehicle, which can ensure smooth movement of troops and artillery, in all kinds of terrains and in varying climatic conditions. The Tata LPTA 1623 has been designed keeping in mind these requirements of the Armed Forces.  Apart from the military applications the vehicle is also best suited for off road and extreme 4X4 applications such as fire fighting, emergency vehicles, recovery vehicles, maintenance vehicles etc. With features like enhanced payload  range of 5T to10T, high ground clearance of 360mm, excellent fordability of 800mm, Self Recovery Winch, Air-conditioned cab, Heating Demisting facility, Cold Starting Device etc. the Tata LPTA 1623 is the vehicle to look out for. This vehicle is available in 2 configurations: 4×4 and 6×6, allowing the customer to select the configuration which suits it the best, in terms of requirements of payload and traction. The Tata LPTA 1623 chassis can be used as a platform for different kinds of military applications viz Troop Carriers, Communication Shelter, Field Artillery Tractors, Recovery Trucks, Water Tankers, Fuel Bowsers, Crash Fire Tenders, Mobile Hospital etc.
