A 24-valve cylinder head kit engineered to rev to 12,000rpm, is now available for Porsche 964 and 993 engines from its manufacturer, Swindon Powertrain. The M64 Cylinder Head Kit improves power, breathing efficiency and reduces weight for all Porsche M64 air-cooled engine applications. Available now directly from Swindon Powertrain, it is priced at £29,950.

Production Porsche 964 and 993 air-cooled engines in period relied on a traditional, low flow, two-valve per cylinder architectures. This limits the total valve area, ultimately restricting the mass of air entering the combustion chamber during each cycle. Additionally, these larger valves required heavier springs that tended to stress the rockers and limit rpm.

Thanks to its 24-valve configuration, Swindon Powertrain’s new M64 Cylinder Head Kit solves these issues. The redesigned four-valve per cylinder castings unlock substantial increases in both power and torque, making it ideally suited to performance, track and race applications. Testing revealed peak flow improvements over a standard 993 of 40 per cent, inlet and 66 per cent on the exhaust. Further to the increased breathing efficiency, the all-new valvetrain unleashes the ability to rev up to 12,000rpm, providing engine builders with the opportunity to exploit additional performance available at increased engine speeds. In addition to the boost in performance, Swindon Powertrain’s M64 Cylinder Head Kit offers a 3.5kg weight reduction over a standard 993 set of cylinder heads.

Swindon Powertrains 24 Valve Cylinder Head Kit Transforms Porsche 964 And 993 Engine Performance

Cast in the UK from A356 grade aluminium, usually found in aerospace applications, the cylinder heads and cam chests are exquisitely CNC-machined in the same facility responsible for building competition engines for over 50 years – including the last three title-winning British Touring Car Championship power units. The comprehensive M64 kit also comprises titanium inlet and exhaust valves with springs, caps, collets, shims, finger followers and shafts, alongside camshafts, cam covers, and timing drive input. Swindon Powertrain can also supply a power steering drive to enable the use of the 993’s production system, custom pistons designed to take full advantage of the increased breathing efficiency, alongside inlet porting and bespoke cam profiles, as options to create a truly special engine for any high performance or competition application.

To simplify the upgrade process and enable further staged upgrades, Swindon Powertrain’s kit is fully compatible with the standard production Porsche 993’s lubrication system, cam chain drive, barrels ranging from 95 – 102.7mm bore diameter, crankcase and exhaust.

“Factory cylinder heads traditionally held back worthwhile gains for the traditional over square Porsche air-cooled flat six engines. Our extensive research and development programme enabled us to eliminate the compromise to create arguably, the ultimate cylinder head for an air-cooled 911,” says Raphaël Caillé, managing director at Swindon Powertrain. “Using the latest innovations in materials alongside CNC machining to F1 tolerance standards, our cylinder heads transform an air-cooled engine. The improved breathing and ability to rev, unleash the potential to experience your 911 like never before.”

Available now from Swindon Powertrain, the M64 Cylinder Head Kit is priced at £29,950 (+ taxes) and comes with 12 months’ warranty.
