An exciting variation on an established theme
One of the interesting new models on display in the Suzuki Adventure Zone at the Johannesburg International Motor Show is the Suzuki SX4 Sedan – a booted, four-door sedan version of the highly popular SX4 lifestyle hatchback.
The SX4 sedan is already an established and popular member of the Suzuki passenger car family in a number of European countries, as well as in Japan, Australia and the United States. Suzuki Auto SA is currently considering the viability of releasing the handsome compact sedan locally.
The SX4 sedan comfortably accommodates up to five occupants and their luggage, while retaining a sleek and stylish look. Compact proportions and a tight turning circle ensure nimble road manners in urban traffic and on the open road.
The spacious interior offers plenty of leg and shoulder room, even for rear seat passengers. Space is not the only factor in ensuring plenty of on-board comfort: the shape and position of the seats has been designed to support a natural posture, a key factor in comfortable long-distance travel.
Additionally, ideal seat heights and large door apertures ensure easy access front and rear. The rear bench seat is mounted slightly higher, which means even those in the back get a good all-round view.
The generously proportioned boot offers an impressive 515 litres of cargo space, which can be further extended by folding down the seat backs of the 60:40 split rear bench seat. This is augmented by an array of useful storage compartments throughout the cabin.
As is the case with the SX4 hatchback, the sedan version is comprehensively equipped. Standard features include keyless remote central locking, cruise control, air-conditioning, electric mirrors and windows, a trip computer, and a multi-speaker CD sounds system with MP3 compatibility.
The SX4 sedan’s advanced 2,0-litre, 16-valve engine is the same as the unit employed in the hatchback version. With 112 kW at 6 200 r/min and 190 Nm at
4 000 rpmr/min, it offers plenty of urge for sporty performance, yet also achieves excellent economy figures.
The SX4 sedan’s appearance at JIMS will provide Suzuki Auto SA with an excellent opportunity to gauge public response to the compact four-door before making a final decision on introducing it locally.
