The Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) is exhibiting two concept models and the BoosterJet, a brand new 1,4-ltire direct-injection turbo petrol engine, at the 16th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, which opened this week.
Suzuki iK-2 and iM-4
The iK-2 and iM-4 make their Chinese debut after their global unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show last month. The iK-2 is a compact car which incorporates all the elements expected in a car of this size – design, utility, comfort, manoeuvrability, driving performance and fuel efficiency – at an enhanced level. Suzuki plans to launch a production model based on the iK-2 to all markets, including China.
The iM-4 represents a new vehicle category for Suzuki, which has a track record of delivering innovative products in the compact SUV and crossover categories. The iM-4 opens up new possibilities and new avenues to enjoy motoring. Suzuki is considering the launch of a production model based on the iM-4.
New direct-injection turbo petrol engine
The Shanghai expo also marks the world premiere of Suzuki’s new turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine. Known as the BoosterJet, the 1,4-litre unit achieves exceptional fuel efficiency through the use of direct-injection technology, while turbocharging boosts power and torque output.
Besides achieving excellent fuel efficiency and dynamic performance, the compact, lightweight engine features an optimised layout and weight-reduction technology to meet the rigorous size and weight requirements demanded by new-generation car designs.
China will be the first market to receive the engine when Suzuki launches a model powered by the BoosterJet in that country, before expanding availability to global markets.
Suzuki is also showing the latest-generation Vitara compact SUV, which is undergoing market-specific refinement before being introduced in China later this year.
