Japan’s Automotive Researchers and Journalists recognise Suzuki’s first global BEV for its advanced engineering, versatility, and worldwide relevance.
Suzuki’s first global battery-electric vehicle, the e VITARA, has been honoured with the 2026 RJC Car of the Year Special Award, a distinction granted by Japan’s NPO Automotive Researchers’ and Journalists’ Conference (RJC). The award marks a significant milestone in Suzuki’s electrification journey, celebrating the brand’s ability to merge cutting-edge EV innovation with the rugged usability that has long defined its SUVs.
A Global BEV With a Clear Mission
Unveiled in Milan in November 2024 and showcased at India’s Bharat Mobility Global Expo in early 2025, the e VITARA was built from the outset as Suzuki’s first global strategic BEV. Its product vision—“Emotional Versatile Cruiser”—shaped every aspect of its development, from engineering to aesthetic execution.
The e VITARA’s design blends the clean, futuristic cues expected of a modern BEV with the muscular stance and practicality that VITARA fans recognise instantly. It is a vehicle crafted to win over both existing Suzuki loyalists and first-time EV adopters worldwide.
Engineering for the Future
At the heart of the e VITARA is a newly developed EV-specific platform, HEARTECT-e, engineered to deliver rigidity, safety, and responsiveness. Paired with a nimble electric powertrain, the SUV promises sharp, confident on-road dynamics.
Suzuki’s new electric 4WD system, ALLGRIP-e, extends that confidence beyond the tarmac. Designed to deliver both traditional off-road capability and high-torque EV performance, the system ensures the e VITARA remains true to its adventurous heritage—even as it transitions into a new era of mobility.

Why the RJC Recognised It
In awarding the Special Award, the RJC cited the e VITARA’s unique combination of innovation, versatility, and global relevance. According to the organisation:
“Suzuki’s first BEV, which brings together advanced technologies primarily from across Asia and is produced at the latest plant in India. While being a global model to be launched in over 100 countries and regions worldwide, it features a body size and 4WD specifications that can also handle Japan’s diverse road conditions and snowy regions, realising a vehicle design that is easy to use for anyone.”
This balance—global scale, regional adaptability, and universal ease of use—positions the e VITARA as a meaningful entrant in the evolving BEV market.
A Word From Suzuki’s Leadership
Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, celebrated the achievement:
“We are delighted that the e VITARA has been selected for the 2026 RJC Car of the Year Special Award. The e VITARA is Suzuki’s first battery EV SUV to be introduced as a global model in more than 100 countries and regions around the world. Taking this award as an opportunity, we will strive to make the e VITARA a car that is even more beloved by customers worldwide.”
A Defining Moment for Suzuki
As Suzuki expands its electrified portfolio, the e VITARA’s recognition in Japan’s prestigious RJC awards signals more than just technical accomplishment—it represents the brand’s intent to compete globally in a fast-accelerating BEV landscape. With its forward-thinking engineering and class-spanning versatility, the e VITARA stands poised to become one of Suzuki’s most influential models of the decade.
