Suzuki Auto South Africa and its extensive network of dealers have set the tone for 2025 by shattering multiple sales records in January. The official naamsa sales report, published on the first business day of the month, reveals a robust performance that not only surpasses previous benchmarks but also highlights the growing appeal of Suzuki’s innovative lineup in the South African market.
A Month of Milestones
In January 2025, Suzuki sold 6,399 new passenger vehicles—a new overall record that eclipses the previous high set in November 2024 by 370 units. This impressive achievement is segmented into:
- Dealer Sales: A record 4,534 units were transacted through dealerships, surpassing the former record of April 2024 by 42 units.
- Fleet/Rental/Government Sales: The figure reached 1,865 units, edging out the November 2024 record by three units.
These milestones have propelled Suzuki Auto South Africa to secure the second spot in total vehicle sales by manufacturer rankings.
The Swift Steals the Spotlight
Among the 16 Suzuki models available in South Africa, the new fourth-generation Swift emerged as the star performer. With 2,628 units sold in January, the Swift not only became the best-selling model of the month but also marked the highest monthly sales figure since June 2022, when 1,925 units were sold.
Introduced in November 2024, the revamped Swift is turning heads across the AB-segment with its:
- Exuberant Exterior Styling: A fresh, dynamic design that appeals to modern drivers.
- Efficient Powertrain: Powered by the Z12E 1.2L three-cylinder petrol engine, offering both performance and fuel efficiency.
- Innovative ‘HEARTECT’ Platform: Delivering engaging driving dynamics with a lightweight yet rigid structure.
- Comprehensive Safety Suite: Standard safety features include six airbags (front, side, and curtain), ABS brakes with EBD, Brake Assist Function, Electronic Stability Programme, and rear ISOFIX anchors, along with three-point seatbelts for every occupant complete with audible/visual reminders.
The Swift’s accolades are impressive, having already clinched the 2025 Automotive Researchers’ and Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC) Car of The Year award. It is also contending in multiple prestigious competitions, including the 2025 South African Car of the Year (COTY) and the Cars.co.za Consumer Awards, and has been named a Top 10 finalist for the 2025 World Car of the Year and a Top 5 finalist in the 2025 World Urban Car category.

Other Noteworthy Performers
Following the Swift, Suzuki’s Fronx crossover SUV and the seven-seater Ertiga also made significant contributions to the January figures:
- Fronx Crossover SUV: Selling 771 units, the Fronx proved to be a popular choice, combining style with functionality.
- Ertiga: With 637 units sold, the Ertiga’s spacious design and value-for-money proposition resonated with families and fleet buyers alike.
