Subaru UK has closed the books on another successful year, with 2024 bringing steady growth, milestones, and accolades. Despite industry-wide production constraints, the brand reported a 0.4% year-on-year increase in sales, as highlighted in the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) annual report.
With 2,419 vehicles sold in 2024, Subaru also crossed the significant milestone of 250,000 all-time sales in the UK—a testament to the enduring appeal of its robust and dependable vehicles. Subaru further cemented its reputation by topping the prestigious Auto Express Driver Power survey, an annual evaluation of vehicle ownership satisfaction.
The Outback Leads the Charge
The iconic Subaru Outback emerged as the brand’s best-selling model for 2024, accounting for 31% of total sales. This award-winning crossover estate, celebrated for its all-terrain capability and everyday practicality, continues to attract a loyal following. Its ability to blend rugged dependability with sector-leading versatility has made it a cornerstone of Subaru’s UK lineup for over three decades.
Meanwhile, the Forester SUV held its ground, contributing 28% of Subaru’s annual sales. Known for its safety features and family-friendly functionality, the Forester remains a staple of the brand’s portfolio.

Electrification Gains Momentum
Subaru’s commitment to electrification bore fruit in 2024, with the all-electric Solterra achieving its highest-ever sales mix of 19%. This marked a strong year for the BEV, which sold out by the year’s end, aligning with the UK’s broader transition to greener mobility. The SMMT reported that BEVs accounted for 19.6% of the UK’s new car market in 2024, and Subaru’s Solterra mirrored this trend.
Mild-hybrid powertrains also saw increased adoption, comprising 51% of Subaru’s total sales for the year. This shift underscores the brand’s ability to meet diverse consumer preferences, offering both advanced electrified options and traditional internal combustion engines.
Retail Excellence and Looking Ahead
Subaru UK Managing Director Lorraine Bishton credited the brand’s success to its model range and dedicated retail network.
“Our 2024 results demonstrate another strong year for Subaru UK during a challenging period for the industry,” Bishton said. “These figures reflect the genuine appeal of our multi-award-winning lineup, which combines dependability, safety, and fun—no matter the powertrain choice.”
Bishton also praised the tireless efforts of Subaru’s nationwide retail partners, emphasizing their critical role in delivering exceptional customer experiences.
Looking ahead to 2025, Subaru UK anticipates a transformative year, with exciting announcements and innovations on the horizon. With a strong foundation laid in 2024, the brand is poised to build on its momentum and continue growing its presence in the UK market.
