SCOOBYFEST 2014 TO ROCK ZWARTKOPS IN FEBRUARY

Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria is set to be enveloped by the thrum of Subaru Boxer® engines as the Subaru Owners Club of South Africa (SOCSA) descends on the track for Scoobyfest 2014, on 8 February. The Club’s annual performance get-together, the 2014 edition of Scoobyfest promises to be the biggest and best yet, with overwhelming support coming from all directions.
The 2014 event will utilise the Zwartkops facility to its full extent once again, with drag races, track trials, skidpan duels and a hillclimb all adding up to immense action and excitement for both Subaru owners and those who aspire to own a Subaru.
Speed and power in a controlled environment: safety the Subaru way
With the brand’s endless list of safety accolades – including numerous 5-star Euro NCAP and ANCAP safety ratings, as well as insurmountable IIHS Top Safety Pick awards – being mentioned whenever Subaru vehicles are in question, an event like Scoobyfest allows the brand’s safety merits to be experienced under controlled conditions and in a safe environment, says Subaru Southern Africa Marketing Manager, Ashley Lazarus.
“Our entire vehicle range exhibits some of the highest safety ratings in the industry and with much of the inherent safety aspects being related to the high-performance drivetrain setups in many Subaru vehicles, an event like Scoobyfest allows drivers to experience their merits without the risk of a collision, pushing their cars to the limit in a controlled environment.

Supercharged BRZ to thrill on skidpan
A unique partnership with Rob Green Motorsport, a supercharged Subaru BRZ automatic will make an appearance at Scoobyfest 2014, offering skidpan demos to interested buyers and those looking for the ultimate Subaru thrill. Fitted independently of Subaru Southern Africa, who provide a 3-year/ 75 000 km service plan on RGM-fettled BRZ models, the RGM BRZ pushes 231 kW to the rear wheels at 0.6 bar boost, up from the normally-aspirated model’s 154 kW. Torque increases from 205 Nm to a meaty 315 Nm.
Continues Lazarus: “The supercharged BRZ really is a joy to drive, the uprated power output enhancing the chassis’ best attributes. Not only is it faster but more fun as well, especially on the wet skidpan where sideways action is bound to delight. The supercharger conversion for the BRZ retails directly through RGM for R75 000 and includes its own 6 month/ 20 000 km warranty.
Brand new STI up for grabs
Taking interest in the brand to a new level, the Mamelodi Church of Christ will be holding a raffle with the grand prize of a brand new 2013 Subaru WRX STI being given away to one extremely lucky entrant in March. The WRX STI is unequivocally Subaru’s performance flagship, its cult reputation stemming from years of heroic WRC exploits. The WRX STI is by far Subaru’s most powerful model, the 2.5-litre turbocharged Boxer® engine shoving 221 kW and 407 Nm to all four wheels via the Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD) and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive™ for a 0-100 km/h sprint time of just 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 255 km/h. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to help build a new church facility which serves the Mamelodi community through various feeding schemes and charitable initiatives.

Entrance to Scoobyfest 2014 is free for spectators and the event starts at 08h00.
