Subaru Europe, a subsidiary of SUBARU CORPORATION, has announced that the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek has achieved the prestigious five-star rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). This recognition underscores Subaru’s unwavering commitment to safety, making the Crosstrek one of the safest vehicles on the road. With scores exceeding the threshold across all four key safety areas—Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users, and Safety Assistance—the Crosstrek joins Subaru’s entire UK model range in attaining this top-tier accolade.
Leading in Child Occupant Protection
In the Child Occupant category, the Crosstrek emerged as one of the best performers of 2024, registering a remarkable 90% score. The vehicle earned maximum points in crash test performance for both frontal and lateral impacts, specifically for 6- and 10-year-old child dummies. During the more severe side pole impact tests, all critical body regions of the child occupants were well protected, with the Crosstrek scoring the maximum points possible.
Further reinforcing its family-friendly credentials, the Crosstrek features an automatic airbag disabling system for the front passenger seat, ensuring optimal protection for rearward-facing child restraints. Subaru has also integrated an indirect ‘child presence detection’ system, which issues a warning if it detects that a child has been left inside the car—an innovative safety measure designed to prevent tragic accidents.

High Marks for Vulnerable Road User Safety
In the Vulnerable Road Users assessment, the Crosstrek attained an impressive 85%, reflecting Subaru’s advanced safety technologies. It scored top marks for its Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system, particularly in detecting and avoiding collisions with cyclists. Similarly, the Lane Support system performed well in protecting motorcyclists, another critical category for road safety.
Outstanding Adult Occupant Protection
The Crosstrek’s safety performance for Adult Occupants was equally commendable, with an 83% score. The vehicle excelled in lateral crash impacts, earning top marks in the side barrier test and the more severe side-pole impact test. In both scenarios, critical body regions were well protected, ensuring maximum safety for the driver and passengers. Additionally, the vehicle’s design provides comprehensive protection against whiplash injuries, with both the front seats and head restraints demonstrating strong performance in rear-end collision scenarios.
Advanced Safety Assistance Features
Subaru has also packed the Crosstrek with a suite of cutting-edge safety assistance technologies. The vehicle earned top marks for its Lane Support system, which includes Lane Keep Assist and Emergency Lane Keeping. The system helps gently guide the vehicle back into its lane when necessary, intervening more aggressively in critical situations to prevent accidents. Furthermore, the Crosstrek is equipped with a seatbelt reminder system for both front and rear passengers, as well as a driver status monitoring system, further enhancing its overall safety credentials.
Rugged Off-Road Capability Meets Unparalleled Safety
Launched in the UK in January 2024, the Subaru Crosstrek not only excels in safety but also offers exceptional off-road capabilities. With 220mm of ground clearance, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and Subaru’s renowned X-MODE off-road system, the Crosstrek is engineered to tackle the most challenging terrain. Whether navigating rural countryside roads or adverse weather conditions, the Crosstrek ensures superior grip, traction, and road holding.
This five-star Euro NCAP rating reinforces Subaru’s dedication to delivering vehicles that offer the highest levels of safety, both on and off the road. With its robust safety features and off-road prowess, the Crosstrek is a vehicle that inspires confidence in any environment.
