The window for entering the prestigious 2024 Fleet Safety Awards is rapidly closing, with the deadline extended until 25 September following high demand. Now, with only 10 days left, fleet managers, companies, and road safety advocates have a final opportunity to submit their entries for a chance to win their share of R200,000 in cash and other prizes.

MasterDrive CEO, Eugene Herbert, confirmed that the deadline extension was introduced to accommodate the growing number of entries. “With another enthusiastic response to the Awards, we gladly extended the deadline to allow entrants more time to submit high-quality entries. The aim is to showcase the fleet safety strategies of organisations that are setting an example in road safety,” says Herbert.

The Awards celebrate efforts to reduce crash and fatality rates in the fleet industry, contributing to the broader goal of improving road safety across South Africa. “The more individuals and organisations that proudly highlight their achievements in road safety, the better it is for the future of road safety in South Africa as a whole,” he adds.

Double the Prizes, Double the Impact
This year’s Fleet Safety Awards have seen not only a surge in the number of entries but also a significant increase in the rewards. Prizes have doubled from R100,000 in 2023 to a remarkable R200,000 this year. In particular, cash prizes for overall winners have been bolstered, with additional prizes allocated to the Best Organisation, which will donate its award to a charitable cause within the industry.

“These cash prizes not only have a profound impact on the lives of recipients but also serve as motivation for others to emulate the outstanding road safety efforts recognised through the Awards,” says Herbert.

New Category for Bus Operators
In partnership with the South African Bus Operators Association (SABOA), the 2024 Awards will also introduce a category dedicated to acknowledging the best in the bus industry. This addition recognises those in the sector who have demonstrated leadership in promoting road safety. The three SABOA Awards categories include:

  • SABOA Best Fleet Manager for exceptional commitment to road safety.
  • SABOA Best Operator for the Road Warrior Award, recognising a role model within the industry.
  • SABOA Best Organisation for companies promoting outstanding road safety practices.

Easier Entry Process
With only 10 days remaining, Herbert encourages interested parties to begin the entry process now. “We urge you to start your entry as soon as possible to give yourself ample time to showcase your dedication to road safety. The entry process has been streamlined based on feedback from last year’s participants, cutting the time required to complete it in half,” he explains.

Additionally, a new draft-saving option allows entrants to save their progress and complete the application over several days. “With this new option, you can complete two to three questions per day, ensuring you can finish the full entry in less than 10 days,” Herbert notes.

Awards Categories
Participants can enter several categories, each recognising leadership and commitment to road safety:

  • Best Fleet Manager: Grand prize of R50,000, with R10,000 prizes for winners in LCV, MCV, and HCV categories.
  • Best Company: Philip Hull Floating Trophy and R20,000 donation to a charitable organisation.
  • Road Warrior: Grand prize of R40,000, with R5,000 prizes for winners in LCV, MCV, and HCV categories.
  • Best Employer: Floating trophy and various prizes, including psychometric assessments for drivers of the overall winner.
  • Best Truck Stop: Floating trophy and additional prizes to improve facilities.
  • SABOA Fleet Safety Awards: Best Fleet Manager (R20,000), Road Warrior (R20,000), and Best Organisation (floating trophy).

MasterDrive is proud to see the Fleet Safety Awards grow over the last three years and encourages participation in what has become one of the fastest-growing road safety competitions in Africa. “Be part of this one-of-a-kind competition and enter the running to win substantial cash prizes while contributing to the future of road safety,” says Herbert.
