As the 2024 South African Touring Car Championship (SATC) approaches its penultimate round, all eyes are on the historic Killarney Raceway in Cape Town. This iconic circuit, renowned for its high-speed straights and intricate corners, will play host to what promises to be a pivotal weekend of racing. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing South Africa (TGRSA) is gearing up to assert its dominance, with drivers Michael van Rooyen, Saood Variawa, and Nathi Msimanga at the helm of their formidable SATC GR Corollas. Additionally, Sa’aad Variawa will continue his campaign in the SupaCup Championship behind the wheel of the TGRSA SupaStarlet.

The stakes are high with only two rounds remaining in the 7-round championship. Currently, Robert Wolk (BMW) leads the standings with a commanding 127 points. TGRSA’s Michael van Rooyen trails closely with 102 points, making him a strong contender for the title. Julian van der Watt (VW) sits in third place with 91 points, while Anthony Pretorius is just one point behind in fourth with 90 points. Saood Variawa is in fifth with 82 points, and Nathi Msimanga occupies sixth place with 69 points.

The Killarney Raceway presents a formidable challenge for the drivers, combining fast straights with technical corners that test both skill and strategy. For TGRSA, this weekend is crucial as they aim to close the gap in the championship standings and enhance their title prospects. Michael van Rooyen, in particular, is expected to push for a strong finish to keep his championship hopes alive.

In the SupaCup Championship, Sa’aad Variawa will continue his debut season in the TGRSA SupaStarlet. Despite facing technical challenges and on-track incidents earlier in the season, Variawa has demonstrated significant promise. As the championship nears its conclusion, he will be focused on delivering consistent performances to improve his standings and secure a strong finish.

The Killarney Speed Festival will commence with practice sessions on Friday, followed by Qualifying and two race heats on Saturday. The SATC and SupaCup races will be run concurrently, ensuring a weekend packed with exhilarating racing action for fans.

With the championship title still up for grabs and the pressure mounting, this weekend’s events at Killarney Raceway are set to be a spectacle of speed and strategy.
